couple of things to add. If you're using a texture you have to UV unwrap and create before fracturing and you didn't cover the interior/internal material setting which is really handy.

I have uploaded videos showing the cell fracture and rigid body collision working perfectly in a scene which contains nothing but the object to be destroyed, the plane, and the object which destroys the first object. However, even having successfully done that, when I have returned to my full cabin scene in which I wanted to use the destruction of a door, it doesn't work. The shards just collapse at the start of the animation for no apparent reason despite the settings being the same as in those simple scenes in which it works correctly, the only difference being that the door object is in the center of the scene in the latter.

Tip: If you remove the doubles before you remesh, you get a cleaner topology

it would be so much easier for you to use the fracture modifier build from us. you could change every thing on the fly, shards, smaller shards, constraints, debris, everything is changeable with a few clicks out of one ui for all. you would finish this project in seconds! and it's free ;)

i dont think you needed to redo the render layers key frames as you had them selected and moved them over with the rest of the frames

Hey CG, thank you for this tutorial. There was a lot more information here that I found really useful to add to my own knowledge of the system.

But one question I do have is about the animation. YOu used the exclude layers to hide certain objects. Is it also alright to use the eye icon in the layout?

Is there a way I can choose when the cell fracture begins?

I am trying to animate something breaking something else, but I don't want the cell fracture part of the animation to start right away... any help? Thank you so much in advance.

ok, i have an odd Q. what if you want to 'reverse' physics. i.e. you have an animated object you want to shatter, rain, etc UPWARDs? can you do a quick explanation on how to do that please?
