Should you grab the Old PS5 while you still can? - PS5 Slim Review

For the past week I've been using the new PS5 Slim as my primary system, so let's see how it stacks up against the original and whether or not you this new one is better, or if you should try to grab the original PlayStation 5 while it's still regularly available.

For new buyers, the slim is the better option.

For the owners of the old model is no reason for the "upgrade".

My overall excruciating pain, anxiety and excitement when I first got the PS5 back in December 2020 was something else. I felt like I was one of the few people who was lucky enough to get the console when it first came out so the memories of just trying to get the damn console back then will have a special place in my heart 😂

The very 1st version had a much bigger copper heatsink. That's the one I've got and am extremely happy with it.

This is actually the 4th revision of the ps5
2020 - 1000 model 7nm 4.5kg
2021 - 1100 model 7nm 4.2kg
2022 - 1200 model 6nm 3.9kg
2023 -- slim model 6nm 3.2kg

If you have a 2020-2021 ps5 might be worth upgrading to the slim or the larger 2022-23 as they use 6nm soc over the original 7nm which has better thermals/smaller power draw

To see which version you have look under the base of the console should have a number that starts cfi-1/0-2

I will have had my OG PS5 for 3 years come January 2nd. I have had 0 problems with my PS5 and see no reason to upgrade. Fun fact my slim line PS3 which is 12 years old still works perfectly!! :)

The new one not only cost more, it's also way cheaper looking. Yes the original looks like a wiwfi router, the new one looks like it's from alli Express.

I prefer the design of the original, so if I do pickup the PS5, I'm either getting that or the pro version when that drops

No one ever talks about the lights don't even light up half way? The original ps5 lights up all the way to the top which looks awesome!

I got the original and I love the design! I use it in horizontal display mode, I have the space for it and don't really move it around all the time so it's perfect for me

As always with something that doesn't offer performance gains; buy if you don't have one, or your current one is somehow broken. Don't buy if your current one is doing fine.

I have an original ps5, and I haven't even slightly considered it, and that's fine.

For new buyers the slim is the best option.
For owners of the original you can make that slight upgrade for it to be smaller with more storage (if you want)

I just purchased a new ps5 from best buy last month cause it’s still the post 2022 revised model and personally I kinda love the big size and display mine horizontally. This is my 1st ps5 and the redesign pushed me to finally go grab one. I absolutely love it and I would hate it if it was smaller or didn’t have those awesome looking vents. I’ll the big model all day long I think it’s truly the best ps5 imo size and all.

My partner just bought the old one, because she likes the looks of the ild one better (the disc drive hump is more integrated into the design) and because of the different sideplates you already have. (The Spiderman sideplates like really good imo)

The "slim" is louder from what I've seen. It's pretty obvious it's got cheaper components in the slim to cut production costs down. They also over engineered the original PS5 and you have more expensive components (copper heatsink) I'm happy with the phatty. I was always cautious of the system being smaller with a detachable disc drive being louder makes sense

No I got a Spider-Man 2 full game bundle all for 499 and it’s the new slim version can’t beat that plus with Black Friday deals all games and controllers are on sale great time to get a ps5

i purposely brought the original model over the slim. I just prefer the look. I hate the look of the new cheapy lazy plastic stand pieces and also the slit through the covers with glossy on one half and matt on the other. I also dont like the money grabbing tactic of forcing you to buy a vertical stand instead.
