On a lighter note, Russian mail order brides are being heavily discounted. One site is advertising a buy one get one free sale.

Punitive sanctions don't work because they are applied inconsistently and encourage defiance and retaliation. If we really want to save and spread democracy, free countries working together must implement a consistent, INCENTIVE BASED policy of massive taxes on ALL imports, with incremental discounts linked to democratic reforms in less free countries. Gains by a country must be perceived as earned, not as capitulation. (see Dale Carnegie) Free trade only with other free countries. This policy would cost consumers nothing if it was offset by domestic tax reductions, so there really is no excuse to not start immediately. Plus, the eventual savings in military spending and market disruptions due to conflict, would more than offset any temporary negative effects.

It is responsible to ask people to "take to the streets".

Will you be there for their court trials or imprisonments? What if they're killed?

Rubble devaluing is good for Russian budget. The internal budget commitment is in rubble. The maths is simple, sell oil high, dollar is stronger than rubble, so one barrel buys more rubbles. Do the maths. Also Putins regime is no more brutal, than US regime.

The problem is never ending sanctions might enrage Russian people in the long run! The problem is one should never make deals or promises that one cannot or is unwilling to keep.

They will work. Just give some time. Russian soldiers are demoralized, they're abandoning their tanks.

No, they wont. Not in time to stop the worst from happening. Putin already condemned ukraine to unimaginable suffering.
