I just bought my first violin. I had a man at the violin shop tune it for me. And I was there for a shoulder rest and some rosin. That's just ANOTHER way to tune your violin. :-)

I've been playing music since I was 8 and I've always wanted a violin but didn't think I could afford lessons. But I just got one (now that I'm 32) and found your channel, thanks so much you have the most helpful and informative channel I've found. Would have never got mine tuned if it wasn't for you. Being as I've always played guitar and bass and cheap ones at that I've never messed with fine tuners but thanks to you I know what's up.

Alison! Alison!!! My new MV300 arrived today, and I rosined up the bow just like you said in your other video, and I made . . . noise!

I wish I watched this video first before I try to tune my violin. 😭

G D A E. looking at the violin, the G is on the left and the Eis on the right. The G string is the thickest string and the E is the thinnest.

Your videos are a tremendous help to me. I have been playing the mandolin for our church's worship group but have always desired to play the violin. I now have a violin, and am adjusting to a bow. Your videos are a treasure grove of information making it easier to learn.

I wish I watched this video before. So far I've broken 3 or 4 E strings and now I got a bunch of E string just for every each time the accident happen again =)).
This video useful !

For beginner, remember never tune your E string with Peg. :))

My pegs won't stay in place, they always move back. Like, it was designed to never be tuned correctly.

Learned to tune a few months ago by myself, & our video really really helped me do it quicker. I used to hesitate all the time & then get nowhere.

I seriously can't thank you enough! My violin was so out of tune and I couldn't get it, I almost gave up but I arrived at your channel. I'm a beginner so I was turning the pegs and it felt like the strings were about to break but you talked about how you have to be careful with them. I'm so great full I stumbled across your channel. Again, thank you!

I love the way you said "and then they had to wait for me to put it on for them..." which conveyed much more than was said...

I'm 55 and played the piano and clarinet as a child. I originally wanted to play the violin so I am pursuing it now.

I love the fact that I can always come back to a video, because I completely forgot the trick about pushing down the string into the peg box to get that micro tuning, as opposed to turning the tuning peg. Of course it's been two years since i last watched this video. But still, I love that option!

it means the notes are a 5th apart like the violin strings. So the G string to the D string is what we call an open 5th as G, A, B, C, D are 5 notes away. Does that make sense?
