Same thing occurred to me today in my 2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek Limited w/ 50k miles on it. The 3 same lights would come on randomly while driving and go off after I restarted the vehicle until today when I restarted the vehicle the lights stayed on and I could not get my Automatic transmission out of the Park position. After after 30mins of frustration and trying everything the lights finally went out after a engine restart and I could drive again. Subaru dealer wanted to charge me $100 to replace the brake light switch. $130 for a diagnostic. Drove to the Subaru dealer. The part was $17.24 after tax, so I told them to give me the part. After watching this video, with my vehicle shifter locked up in the Park position again now at the dealership, I installed the new brake light switch in 3mins in the parking lot with no tools. You saved me a big headache and getting ripped off. Thanks

Great the part online for $18.00, including shipping (I live on an island in Washington state, so going to the dealership isn't always easy). Followed your instructions to the "t". Removed and replaced the part in under 60 seconds. Thank you for an old lady that would rather do the projects herself than pay the dealership.

I wanted you to know this video is still helping people. This happened to our 2015 Cross Trek yesterday. We got the part at the dealership for $15 and my daughter put in it. She can fit under the dash and I cannot LOL! You saved me a bunch of cash. 👍

Thank you thank you thank you! My 2015 Impreza Hatchback was having this problem. Those 3 lights would come on, and eventually it wouldn't reliably shift out of park. The cruise control wouldn't turn on either.

Bought this part for $15 at the dealership, swapped it out myself in a minute or two by with no tools (as other commentors have also mentioned), and everything is fixed!

Previously my car fixing experience consisted of swapping out windshield wipers, replacing headlights, replacing the battery, and changing a tire. Not super technical things. This was super easy and straight forward and definitely saved me at least a couple hundred dollars. Thanks so much for this video!

Thank the lord for you Mr. Torrezx! I was able to do this and I have a 3rd graders understanding of how cars work, mostly based on the lyrics of "Wheels on the Bus").

Like everyone is saying, the wiring for this switch is in the cab directly under the steering wheel. My switch was suckered in there pretty tight and I think it's worth mentioning that it only takes a quarter turn to the left to unlock it, then it will slide right out. You'll want to mark with a sharpie the notch at the depth to which the old switch was inserted so that you can slide yours in to that same depth. Quarter turn to the right and it's back in place! Thanks again for posting this!

You made my whole day!!! I spent the whole day trying to figure out what’s wrong with my car. Battery was fine. And the dealership quoted me $190 to fix it. So I bought the switch myself and followed this, done in 30 seconds and only $20 overall. THANK YOU 😊

Thanks for the help!!! 2014 Impreza with 95k miles and this just happened to me today for the first time. Transmission sometimes came out of Park, other times did not, but luckily I was able to get to a dealership for local pickup the same day, and so far everything's working how it's supposed to. 👍

Bro, thank you so much. $40 (it was the ONLY brake light switch in Indianapolis) and under two minutes later and I saved a few hundred dollars and a trip to the shop.

Thanks! I just had the three lights pop up while driving. They went away after I stopped and restarted the car. Seems to be fine afterwards but I'll have to call my mechanic about getting that part from the dealership.

Thanks a lot man, this video helped me not only troubleshoot my car when it didn't start because I couldn't depress my breaks, but also saved me money on taking to a dealer to fix.

Thank you for this!
Same lights came on in my 2014 Forester plus the eye sight
I bought an aftermarket switch for $13 and fixed the problem
Guaranteed it would have cost $200+ for this issue at the dealer

Thank you soooo much!! My 2013 Suburu Impreza was put up on ramps, to change the oil and filter by yours truly and then I saw all of those lights on and thought that I had done something wrong! Do you know that I can put my car up on the ramps next year without having to pay more money for another part like the one that you so kindly shown? I am a Senior citizen woman who had no problems with the oil change but with the lights coming on, it scared the heck out of me!!

Went to the Subaru Dealership to buy the part and they told me this part is on recall. Got it fixed for free. Check out the dealership for recall before buying the part!

Also when you do take it in for the recall, they don't just switch the sensor. They make new alteration. They snap off the plastic and bolt the new sensor in. So this problem never repeats itself.

Same thing happened to our 2014 Forester XT Touring. ABS, Hill Decent, Eye sight those lights came on. When you turned off the car, it wouldn’t start. Everything is linked to the brake. It was a 17 dollar part with tax. The parts guy had plenty. He said he has seen a lot of these lately. Easy to change. Started first time, and no warning lights.
