GoPro Quik Re-Launched: An Explainer of Sorts & What's new

GoPro Quik is back again, this time with both more features...and a cost for some people. Previously GoPro Quik was focused on GoPro owners, but now it's targeted at anyone with a phone, and with any content (phone/GoPro/drone/DSLR/whatever) - it'll pull it all.

In this video I try and explain what's different about it, the costs and tiers, and all the new features.

I still don't understand why gopro abandoned the desktop version of quick. Why would I upload my raw gopro footage to my phone first before I can edit it with Quick.
They lost me.

Replay, which became Quik is by far the best mobile video editor, the speed ramp addition is HUGE!
The best workflow I’ve found is to go add highlights to each clip, then go to the trim part of the video and selecting “highlight only”. It’s amazing how much more watchable the Quik videos are in :30 seconds versus an iMovie project that lasts 1:30.

I downloaded the app ages ago but forgot about it. It was updating this afternoon and I wondered if I should keep it. Thanks for this explanation - it has saved me a lot of time. (I just deleted the app.)

They lost me after they stopped supporting a desktop app. I've not purchased a GoPro since then--and won't. The ability of integrating data (gauges) in videos was/is key for me. Doing that on a phone/tablet screen was just not an option. I know there are 3rd party solutions for desktop, but their ability to integrate data was spotty. (Particularly when newer GP cameras came out.) I think there are better (cheaper) options on a phone than Quik.

question.. i've upgraded my quik app to gopro quik... did a sample video but where are "my music" .. it doesnt sync to my music filed downloaded from drop box.. any idea how to get all my music that was in the old quik to the new gopro quik app? if you know, id appreciate it.. Thank you

Please explain the Trim section - auto, manual, highlights.
I get the idea of it, I wanted to manually do my own highlights. As the auto was too jumpy. Manual is to long.
I don't understand as what I choose, some of it still cuts out. But it is inside the yellow box? Driving me crazy!

Removal of Protune control is a major PITA. I run two Session cameras (both 4 & 5) and I now have no control of anything, not even Spot Meter which is essential when mounting them in-car.

Thanks for a review of everything new in the app! I only use the app. I'm not trying to be YouTube famous so it gets the job done for me. Posting little vids on IG and some YouTube is easy.

I was using Quik on my ipad in 2017 with iphone/ipad footage and it worked flawlessly.

Very informative video. I just got a Hero 9, and have tried to figure out what Quik is about. I was pretty sure I wasn't interested in any of what it does, and your video confirmed it. Its not a replacement for the Davinci Resolve that I use for my videos.

Yep, low blow on removing protunes. BLE remote works but has no preview and I use stripped hero. Damn you gopro :/

I was happy with the old app, so disabled updates. I'm happy to subscribe to newspapers where I get new content daily. Apps, I'll pay one off for a price I think is fair. Subscription model is just not equitable for my non-pro / frequent use.

Great, informative video as usual. I'm enjoying this update. My only issue with the app is you are stuck with 1080p/60fps output. If you could select frame rate and resolution for the output video I would use this a LOT more...
