In Einstein's Special Theory of Relativity, Einstein concluded that time is relative, in other words, the rate at which time passes depends on the observer's frame of reference. The faster a clock moves, the slower time passes according to someone in a different frame of reference.

Nothing better demonstrates this than having your best friend on the equator while you stand on the South pole, or float on the North one. Your friend is moving at 1600 km an hour as the Earth spins while you're barely moving and yet you both experience time the same way. But relative to each other something has to give. You can't both experience time the same as one of you is flying quickly through space and the other is not. The give is time. For you standing on the pole, time is faster, for the person on the equator, time is slower relative to each other. if this concept did not exist in our physical laws, our universe would rip itself apart.
