WinZip vs. WinRAR

I mainly use winrar since all the pirated movies, games, software, etc. Seems to be split up with it. Although I do enjoy seeing HJsplit files since they can't be password protected and I really do hate typing in a password for each episode of a 50+ episode show. Anyways yeah.

I dont use WinZip for the same reasons given in the video... needed to be able to open Rar files. Rar's compressions are better then Zip's too so thats a plus.
I also have 7Zip installed. Depending on the file format, 7Zip sometimes gets higher compression rates then Rar.

WinRAR FTW. Doesn't rub me the wrong way WinZip does.

FYI for those running Windows XP, use the Windows Powertoy "TweakUI" if you want to get rid of the "WinRAR RAR File" context menu under the "New" option and just keep the "WinRAR ZIP File" to make things easier (like when right-clicking the desktop).

yea, i just compressed a file thats roughly a little over 100 mbs. as a .rar is was about 30 mbs, as a .zip it was about 50 mbs.

i use 7-zip too and the compresser i use is prism video converter converts and compresses

right now im using 7zip, but it doesn't extract .daa files and .uif files. What does?

I've never had to pay for WinRAR and i've been using it for ages, they say I have to pay after 40 days but the program still works regardless.

my father says WinRAR unzips all files and WinZip not unzips all files but i don`t know what is best

I use winrar, simply because I don't have to register it and i can open/make rar files. I tried 7-zip, but still preferred winrar.

@tumultus101 Not to mention people who develop games use 7 zip the most and winrar likes you to register.

Ever since zipping was included in Windows natively I have no time or patience for any of the compression programs.

WinRAR. Winzip doesn't open RAR files (4/5 of zipped files are RAR files). 7zip is very good too

Go to ur favorite search engine and write
winrar portable, and there you go.

very light, fast and no setup needed.
(portables only - doesn't need set up)
