More than 90 per cent of blueberries produced in Canada come from B.C., according to Agriculture Canada. Dave Townsend, a spokesperson for the B.C. Ministry of Agriculture and Food, says scorch virus was first detected in the province in 2000 and that last year, about a third of a provincial program’s funding to help farmers went to more than 60 B.C. blueberry growers to help them replant diseased plants.
