I’m Irish by blood, my family was the O’Neills of County Antrum. Our family castle was Edam Duff Kerrick, built in 1360’s but is now called Shane’s Castle. I finally got to visit there in 2019. There’s so much to love about this sea shanty. It’s full and rich with history and meaning. Apparently a lot of which I had no clue.

The Wellerman refers to a 19th-century New Zealand whaling company called Weller Brothers. In the context of the sea shanty "The Wellerman, " it refers to the supply ship that would bring provisions to the whalers. "Tonguing" in this context refers to the process of transferring goods from one ship to another using a system of ropes and pulleys.
