The story of Princess Margaret and Group Captain Peter Townsend is a heartbreaking tale of passion, longing and hardship. After meeting in 1947, the pair quickly grew fond of each other and soon found that their love was to be an almost impossible burden upon the princess’s life. Their relationship was confronted with many hurdles over the 8 years it spanned, facing backlash from the Houses of Parliament and the Church of England and required approval from the Queen - Margaret’s sister Elizabeth. Peter liked teenagers. Margaret was 16 and many years his junior, young enough to be his daughter. Ten years later, he married a 19 year old. I'm not sure if he was much of a catch nor would he have given her life long happiness and fidelity.

I don’t think many people heard what her biographer said on here; after the one year, then the following year apart, their love had “lessened” or they were attracted to each other still but no longer in love enough to marry. They said her income would be doubled if she chose to marry him. So this was not about wanting money or perks over him. People are just reacting to what they saw depicted on The Crown.
