Betterhelp YouTube Drama: What I Learned from Betterhelp's CEO

This video answers several questions about the Betterhelp YouTube drama and the many allegations made against Betterhelp. I examine the evidence about Betterhelp and offer an analysis of the situation. I spoke to the CEO of Betterhelp (Alon Matas), reviewed the website (including the terms and conditions), consulted the research literature, and spoke to several individuals who are familiar with the service that Betterhelp offers. I answer questions about the YouTube drama, the terms and conditions, the qualifications of the therapists, the treatment of clients, the no show rate, the reviews of Betterhelp, as well as other items. I have no financial relationship with Betterhelp. Betterhelp does not sponsor my YouTube channel.

"Responsible behaviour and critical thinking dont seem to be keeping pace with how much growth we see in social media"

Am I missing something or....Dr. Grande spoke with the CEO but....um, what about clients and providers? Gonna talk to the restaurant owner to assess the food and work conditions of a restaurant? I'm probably missing something.

Personally I thought it was good. My counseller seemed genuine. I had to stop it because I couldn't afford it anymore. I thought I'd cancelled it one month but I hadn't, and I was charged. I explained this to Betterhelp and they refunded me, which I thought was good of them.

The company may not be a scam but they have no issue with misleading people, it lists providers that dont work with them as if they do and will charge you wether you speak to someone or not. It is not appropriate to pray on peoples need for good therapy.

Edit: they also share your info with facebook

This is nowhere even close to an objective assessment of the allegations made, it's clearly made with an agenda to debunk the allegations and parrot the excuses made by the company and their hasty edits to their ethically dubious terms and conditions. If a company is charging vulnerable people large amounts of money for the services of licensed therapists then I'd say they have a clear ethical duty to check the credentials of the therapists, even if there isn't a strict legal duty. It's all very well to say that these credentials are a matter of public record, but can a person with mental health issues be expected to know how to check a therapist's credentials? I certainly wouldn't have a clue where to start with such checks, and a company charging serious money should be performing these checks as a matter of course. I see little to no actual evidence presented in this video, just vague opinions and uncited statistics which are consistently offered in support of the 'company line' from betterhelp.

Betterhelp is a company that doesn't want to be held liable and that's understandable. Still, it feels like a scam that feeds on desperate people and is expensive.

Soooo.... I have a question. You present a number of statistics in this video as absolute facts. However, you do not state how you came to have those statistics? My guess is that you were given those statistics by BetterHelp as that would be the only way to get them, unless there was an independent firm that was auditing their service. So how did you come by the statistics that are specific to BetterHelp's services (like the no-show rate, etc.)?

I'm glad to hear you flex your credentials for once, doc! You are pretty modest, and after watching more than 50 of your videos I don't think I've ever heard you mention your professional accomplishments before, I didn't know you had so much expertise with addiction; As a former addict, I really appreciate everyone who has helped me with substance abuse, and I thank you for spending so much money and so much of your life learning how to help people struggling with addiction.

Good video! I agree there is too much herd / mob mentality on YouTube, and too many people rush to get on bandwagons without thinking rationally.

Dr. Grande, you are a breath of fresh air on youtube! The medium of video doesn't need to be equivalent to ignorance. We can make something better out of youtube and make knowledge more accessible for more people. Thank you!

I just don't get how a therapist can help somebody without seeing the emotions of his client when it's just texting. I really think it's a major factor to consider to help someone. You don't get to know somebody just by reading, to see them expressing their issues gives you a lot more data on their psychological state and therefore, the therapist can provide better advices.

Where does the rate of 5% of "no show" from therapists in the plattform come from? Is there any way to control if they were overbooking therapists?
