I got a PS3 last year and have a plasma TV that's actually 720 not 768. Been having lots of fun!

The best way to play PS3 today is with native hardware, installed with CFW.

I love the Ps3 personally. Mgs4. Infamous 1 and 2. Killzone 2 and 3. I still have my og backwards compatible ps3 console. It runs good for a old ps3.

This video is a case study for how many people watch the damn videos before commenting.

Shout out to all the PS3's that are still working. I had 2 of them fail to the red lights of death from just being stored away in a closet for years.

So the best way to play PS3 is on an ultra-rare widescreen professional video monitor that accepts 480p. Yup, that sounds on brand for Sony alright.

The solution is simple; just spend millions of dollars on a data center-strength FPGA board, take 15 years of your free time analyzing the PS3’s architecture and developing a cycle-accurate PS3 core, and then add extra settings like resolution hacks and overclocking for better-than-original performance and fidelity without any of the caveats. Now as for the best means to play the PS4…

My PS3 is fully backwards compatible. I absolutely love that gaming device.

RPCS3 is such a godsend...being able to play Drakengard 3 at 60 fps is amazing

Overclocking the PS3 is game changing actually. Especially my PS3 slims that do 900 on core and 1ghz on memory. Its mind blowing.

I recently bought a used PS3 Super Slim in excellent condition here in Brazil for just R$300 ($54.11 in current conversion) and I feel like it was worth it, especially for my old CRT TV.

I needed a "TV Box" for my old TV in the bedroom and the PS3 ended up serving very well for that as I can still use YouTube, Netflix and even Amazon Prime Video on it and as a bonus I'm enjoying playing some games like the HD version of Sonic Unleashed.

I'm quite surprised how active the PS3 community is still, you can still find lots of people playing online games like Plants vs Zombie: Garden Warfare, Red Dead Redemption 1, GTA IV and CODs games, it's quite impressive considering the age of the console, some of these games are even more popular on the PS3 version than on the Xbox 360 version even though they are backwards compatible.

Backwards compatible PS3 fat is my favorite console, and very impressive

The main way I play a PS3 (I have the fat backwards compatible model) is to set it to 720p run it to the MClassic then to a Edid emulation manager that supports the security the PS3 uses, and from that use it to force the Mclassic upscale and output 1440p with anti-aliasing on the image. I do this with the Switch and all classic systems. Because I run everything into an HDMI hub and then from there it goes to the MClassic and Edid emulation manager. Only systems I don't have plugged into it is the PS5 and Xbox Series X which are plugged directly into my monitor since they already do 4K. Using the set up I have provides the cleanest image I can get from my PlayStation 3 and helps with some of the lower end games.

As I do, Custom firmware, 2TB SSD, 8% unlocked and overclocked to 700/1000
Once you are on custom firmware, it uses a different PS2 emulator and you can play all PS2 games as well

You could just set the resolution to 480p using component cables or via HDMI using a HDCP stripper and connect it to a retrotink 5x or 4K, with this approach you will be able to get the clean scaling of the tinks with some of the performance benefits of using a lower resolution, or just set it to 720p and connect it to the Tink 4K and use it's prescale feature to downscale it 480p and upscale it back to 4K with modern scalers there is no need to hunt down these rare and obscure CRTs, it's not worth the time, space and lower back issues, but to each there own.

I just have my PS3 hooked up to my Sony OLED alongside my PS5 via HDMI. It looks pretty darn great.

There were 1080i, high end CRT widescreen that accepted 480p, but they were so big that I got rid of all of them. One 32" Panasonic I picked up in about 2008 for $100, cost the previous owner almost $3500. It was Interlaced, but so well filtered that it appeared literally progressive scan.

I find it amazing how little people are talking about the PS3 overclock, in some latter slim models you can bump the GPU clock by 80%, just by flashing the CFW. No soldering, no switches, all games work...this is something unique. For something similar you'd have to solder on a new CPU on the Xbox classic for example.

I have a PS3 fat connected to a 720p plasma TV. IMO the PS3 looks its best when connected to period appropriate displays, much like how PS1 and PS2 look their best on CRTs, and a PS5 looks its best on a 4k TV capable of good HDR.
