My New Favorite City! Athens

On my last day in Athens, I really fell in love with the city, and it became one of my favorite places of all time. I started the day wandering aimlessly into an adorable coffee shop and through the breezy shopping districts, and then stumbled upon Hadrian's Arch, which led me to accidentally find the epic and beautiful Temple of Zeus. From there, yet another awesome accidental turn (or, stairway, rather) led me up to the most magical cluster of twisting mazes and whitewashed houses. And to end my time in this gorgeous city, I went to a hilltop by the Acropolis to watch the sunset.
I will miss Athens so much - and I will certainly be back!

Being a Greek who lives abroad I can't help but getting emotional from a very deep place by a video like this. It's just so beautiful seeing people from other origins and cultures actually getting the city you inherently love so much. You really made me re-live this original gem of a city and re-miss it, thank you.

The building of Zeus temple started at the end of 6th century BC, and completed by Hadrian at 131Ad, that's why Athenians built the arch honoring Hadrian, as for the neighborhood with the white (Island style) homes the stairs led you to is called the Anafiotika, where the builders from the Island of Anafi who where brought to build the Royal Palace ( the current Parliament) built for themselves and their ancestors are still living there...you are lucky this place is not on the tourist books and rarely tourists find they way there.

You've literally revealed Athens' best kept secret! That gorgeous neighbourhood with the winding allies and cute houses is called Anafiotka and only a stones throw from the Acropolis. Millions visit Athens every year and have no idea this little wonderland exists. I'm actually very pleased you've shown this part of the city and I hope more and more people stumble across it as you did.

Another great place to visit in Athens is the Athenian Riviera with it's coastline and sandy beaches. A personal favourite place is Lake Vouliagmeni (a natural lake) located in Vouliagmeni. I always make time to visit these places when I visit Athens and I hope others discover these beauties too. An ex expat who once lived in Athens. One day I hope to live there again.

One of the greatest places to visit, especially if you like old temples, is Cape Sounio and the temple of Poseidon. It is a magical place, full of energy.
It is the place that gave birth to the name of the Aegean sea, and it is a fascinating story to read!

The last place with the narrow passages Its called Anafiotika. King Othon of Greece asked a skillful builder to come and help build the palace, he couldnt come because his family lived far away at the island of Anafi. The king gave them land where the builder pleased and they all came here and formed the mountain the way the islands of the Aegean are. Its a really unique place right underneath the Acropolis.
