During the month of August @PretoriaPsychologists, this month is all about demystifying mental health illnesses.

In this episode @Nkateko Ndala-Magoro psycho-educates on issues of mental health. There are myths about mental health and mental illnesses. Mental illnesses have nothing to do with having something or not having anything. Each individual is affected by things differently.
Each individual can be affected differently by things they experience or that happen to them.
Empathy is very important to someone who is suffering from mental illnesses. It is vital that their emotions are not dismissed . Another myth is that mental illnesses are only for a particular gender, race or even socio-economic. It is believed that only a certain group of gender are adversely affected by mental illnesses. Or a particular race is more prone to having mental illnesses. There are usually triggers to one's mental health whether it be one's nature or nurture for example where one was raised.

In this video @Nkateko Ndala-Magoro maintains that individuals who usually share their experience with someone who is in a similar situation like themselves will reduce the stigma of feeling alone in the corner. Talking helps by normalizing your emotions. Further states that psychotherapy is a place where one can vent, pour what is in their hearts or minds its like removing the weight from one's mind and heart. Talking about it where you feel supported and in a good space. Sometimes one needs a support system where they can express themselves without being judged. A process where individuals feel like they have someone or a group of people who can walk this journey with them.
