Jalen has always been a real dude to me and i have always looked up to him. Im proud to see a brother like him make it out Detroit and become a very successful man. He was only speaking on how he felt at that age and he didn't hold back like most would. it's no secret Duke has always recruited a certain type of player.

17 yr old Jalen felt like a whole bunch of us back then. Now that we're older, we've become wiser. Don't try to define the adult Jalen by how the the 17yr old Jalen thought.

Love that Jalen didn't back down. He also didn't let Skip put words in his mouth. He stuck to his truth and wasn't p.c. about it.

Jealousy is a dangerous sickness that effects the mind if you allow it too.

Jalen always speaks as if he’s holding back his smile.

He is telling the truth. Duke recruits a certain brand of black player. Its still true. Thats their choice

As a 17 yr old white kid in 1990, raised by a poor single mom. I felt the exact same way about duke. I didn't play at a D1 school. But basketball was still my life.

Jalen and Grant were both great professional basketball players. Grant overcame not having to work as hard as he did to setting the goal, working harder than anyone, and becoming great. Jalen overcame poverty and environmental factors to set goals, work hard and achieve greatness. The hatred, disconnect, and misunderstanding between the poor and rich are not isolated to one ethnic or racial community. But I applaud both equally and both have provided financial security through their efforts for their future generations. Both overcame different, but no less potent obstacles in becoming the top .002% in their profession.

I've said this before, now I'll say it again. Jalen is my Newphew. He and my oldest son went to Detroit Southwestern. While going to Southwestern they lived out of the District so they had to have and keep at least a 3.0 gpa., that was the program that was at Southwestern at the time they went and they both had 3.9 gpa's. While there they also made the National Honor Society, and other honor's. So y'all hate'n ass people can stop the hate. Jalen and my son had offer's from even Stanford, and numerous Ivey League School's as well. So Jalen is now, and was then a person of intelligence.

I have much respect for Jalen Rose speaking what our society can't handle today which is truth. We get so upset when people say things that are absolute truth. We have to stop getting offended when we hear something that we know has a reality but yet can't handle. Jalen Rose comes off as being racist or Prejudice or calling out certain players like Grant Hill being an Uncle Tom. When in reality is not the Grant Hill's Uncle Tom he's just stating the fact that do preferred players and better environments then they would a kid from the hood that had Talent back in the day. So why get upset when he speaks the truth. You can even see this skip couldn't even handle the small segments that was given to them to talk about it the reality not the issue. Society please wake up and start dealing with truth and quit accepting what you just want to hear or what you think is the status quo. Our society today is way too sensitive and they need to grow up.

That question about Grant Hill and Elton Brand doing a disservice to their black heritage by joining Duke really pisses me off b/c it if anything, they’d be a disservice if they decided NOT to join Duke. They went there to improve the betterment of their families and their livelihoods, that’s black excellence.

I felt that way then as a teen and child about Duke! Now I still feel the same but understand like Jalen why Duke recruits as it does. If they took more kids that came from tough backgrounds they could help more but that's not Duke University's goal!

The whole reasoning for Jalen’s feeling like he did was because HE had a pro athlete dad who WASN’T in his life or providing for the family like Grant Hill’s dad was, which caused his single mom to work 2 jobs, struggle to take care of the family on her own, miss out on going to college (like Hill’s mom did) in order to better the family income in the future...people need to stop taking bits & pieces of a comment & making it into more than what it meant.
