Tell me about yourself. "My background is lengthy and diverse, is there a particular part of my background that you'd like to discuss so that you could make a determination about whether or not I am a good fit for your company?" (This goes out to those who missed this vital part). You're welcome!

I got hired!! Thank you for all of your guidance! I was told that I was so impressive and professionally polished that they wanted me to start immediately! My new dream career is fully remote and has a huge impact on the community! I’m so happy!

You know what? Graduate schools should start offering a Master's Program in Interviewing. My God. There is SO MUCH ground covered in this topic. My head is spinning.

Interviewer: "Tell me about yourself."
Me: "I'd rather not. I really need this job."

Once, I had an interviewer say to me, "What is one special trait you have that you feel would bring value to this company?" I said, "I'll do something that most people won't do. I'll show up everyday." He leaned forward, pointed right at me and said, "That's a BIG one. How soon can you start?"

My brother always answered this type of question the same way: ' I'm the best candidate you are going to see and you'd be foolish to allow me to work for your competitors.' Always worked!

"Okay Mr. Lazy Interview Man" 😂😂 hilarious and so true on interviews I've been on.
Watching your videos make the process seem so easy. I get so extremely nervous in interviews. I'm going to use your tips on my next one! Thanks for information!

The question is an opportunity to match your background with the JD, just tell a story of how everything you have done in your career has been preparing you for this role. Show them you are an exact fit. Doesn't even matter if the story entirely true.

To me whenever they ask this question, i take this as my opportunity to sell myself to the employer, show them how different I am to other candidates and what I can bring to the table.

To sum this its my moment to bullshit.

In my experience, this is usually the first real question, and is there just to get you talking. I find it useful to have a short 10-second spiel you can reel off before tackling this, just to settle the initial nerves. Nothing too deep, just some basics before firing off the probing question. This also gets around the "don't question a question" hang-up that some people have.

The first time I got this question I told the poor guy my entire life story starting from high school. I could see it in his eyes as I talk for 10 minutes. I even told him how I learned to make pizza dough from scratch.
