Just like fighter jets armed with Air to Air missiles are crucial for aerial combat, Anti-ship missiles are critical for dominating the oceans.

On August 15th, 2021, the U.S. Navy executed Sinking Exercise (SINKEX) off Hawaii as part of the Large Scale Exercise 2021.

USS Ingraham, last Oliver Hazard Perry Class Frigate was hit by various weapons and sunk.

The drill involved the use of several Anti Ship missiles that included Naval Strike Missiles (NSM) launched from the Marine Corps' new unmanned ground-based launcher vehicles and potentially AGM-84 Harpoons launched from P-8s were also involved.

It is evident that Anti Ship capabilities are being validated as the U.S. faces a growing Chinese Navy and resurgent Russian naval fleet.

In this video Defense Updates lists American Anti Ship missiles that the U.S. could deploy to pummel China & Russian warships.

The US is working on JASSM-XR (extreme range) cruise missile with secure datalink 16 that can hit mobile targets and would be able to travel out to 1000+ mile range and carry a 2000 lb. warhead, which would be twice as large as that in the Tomahawk missile. The current JASSM-ER can travel at roughly 600+ mile range.

A contract was recently awarded to integrate LRASMs onto 100+ USN P-8s.

One LRASM under each wing means potentially up to an instant 200 LRASMs available to cooperatively launch at Chinese surface ships all over the SCS.

And that's just the P-8s.

Btw, F-35Bs operating off Allied amphibs/carriers will be well positioned to provide in-flight target info to those LRASMs able to guide them directly into Chinese ships.

I remember during the 80's how invincible the modern navy ships are, not until they being sunk one by one by the Exocet antiship missile.

Mass attack to overwhelm defences is now a must have option of all Navies and Armed forces. Bigger, Faster, mass numbers, Drone attacks welcome to the next war the only question is when and who will be involved.

The Navy has also been testing the new(ish) AARGM-ER for SAM radars, it’s now in production by Northrop Grumman. It’s obviously not anti-ship missile, but worth an honorable mention.

This is the biggest missile ever . At about the 4.28 minute mark in the commentary it is described as having a length of 3.28 miles (presumably “metres”)

The US makes the best weaponry in the world. Tomahawks and their 1500 mile range being used as anti-ship missiles is a game changer. We should all thank Russia for breaking the INF allowing the US to go all out.

Harpoon has been obsolete since the early 2000's. But due to the lack of a real enemy it is only being replaced now. Now we have two enemies one with a navy and one who tries to sink it's own ships (Russia) and one building low technology en mass (China). So ad Interim they have upgraded it and it's replacement missiles are entering service. I think only the torpedo tube launched version is the one that will remain in service the longest.

USN chose NSM but only 185km & cost $2M+ over the Harpoon II+ER, 310 km w/ lighter but deadlier warhead, only $1.2M (tho perhaps NSM will eventually reach that price as more US & int'l orders come). Stealth indeed is priority

US have, tomahawk, LRASM, harpoon ER, SLAM ER, NSM, and now SM-6 is being integrated to antiship missile now too.

So many missiles to wrap my head around. So I did some quick Wikipedia research to help me sort it out that I'll share. Take it with a grain of salt because I don't know if these numbers are right or if interpreted the information correctly.

AGM-84K SLAM-ER - 360kg warhead, 270km range, subsonic, air-launched... most accurate missile on list
AGM-158C LRASM - 450kg warhead, 560km range, subsonic, air-launched, low-observable
RGM-84L Harpoon Block II - 221kg warhead, 124km range, subsonic, sea-skimming... the basic American AShM
RGM-109E TLAM Block IV - 450kg warhead, 1, 700km range, subsonic... could not find any MST Block V specs, but
all Block IV will be converted to Block V. Warhead will change and likely range too.
RGM-184A NSM - 125kg warhead, 185km range, subsonic... combines sea-skimming and random maneuvers to reach target.
RIM-174A ERAM SM-6 Block IA - 64kg warhead, 240km range, supersonic... can engage aircraft, ballistic missiles,
and ships.

Polling question: If you could pick just ONE of these six for the U.S. to use for the next 5 years, which one would you pick and why? Honestly, I don't know, and that is why I'm asking. Thank you!

To use an SM-6 missile as an anti-ship is excessive overkill. the SM-6 is designed to be used as a satellite killer where the mass of explosives is replaced with ultra-precision and speed to destroy the space target as explosives are not needed for them. For anti-ship, the mass of the explosive warhead is the key component.

6:09 wouldn´t this missile be more effective when comming in close above the surface?

Battlefield 4 predicted this sorta thing in many ways, and one standout was the fact that russia, u.s., and China were not on sides against another but fought on a multi front war in the south and east china seas.

If need be, the USAF can also use JSOWs and SDBII to destroy enemy naval vessels although the fighters/bombers would have to get closer within 70-100 mile

China is paper dragon US navy don’t need these many types of missiles
Chinese submarines are underwater Orchestra normal ships also can hear them 😂🤣

With all that you said I still can't imagine what one of these can do to a ship.
