I'd really like to understand the AI upscaling improvements for 4k. I have plenty of 720p & 1080p videos being served up by Plex. It would be great to see how much better the new model does with this. Here's an idea for an experiment: record a show with HDHomeRun Prime, then show the difference in playback quality for that show on the old and new models on a 4K monitor or TV.

I've also heard that the non-Pro version doesn't support the Plex server.

Think they missed the boat a little. Needs end caps/covers then you could travel with it.

Seems like a poor design having cables come out of opposite ends, it won't look good sitting on top of a media center and won't fit inside a media center without bending one of the cords 180 degrees.

New to the channel and digging it...I'd like to see launchbox with retroarch running...I just bought the shield and have some lagging issues running n64 emulators specifically Mariokart

No way I would trade my 2017 Shield for this cylinder. I think this device will be considered a mistake for the lack of I/O and the shape, which seems kind of absurd to me. A small bump in performance is not enough to get me to trade. I would trade for the Pro if I had 200.00 to spare. I use my Shield with a HDHomerun and the Channels app, for a free DVR setup. I suspect a large microSD would do OK, but I prefer my external SSD for fast, silent storage. I use a fireTV remote, so even the remote is not tempting for me.

So I have a 2017 SHIELD that I use as a Plex server, do you think I need to upgrade to the new model? Do you consider the improved chip worth upgrading?

The non PRO version does not have Plex server capabilty.

I have a 2015 and a 2017 model. Absolutely love these little devices and they are going strong suiting my media consumption. Still It's cool Nvidia keeps investing in the Shield TV lineup because my older ones are not going to work forever! You never know!

the nvidia shield arent good as people say in theire reviews, some say it can run gamecubes and wii games well but in reality it doesnt

Not at all impressed thus far. Maybe it is just me but this looks like a lesser version aimed more at the masses. My 2017 version is still the fastest media player I have used to date.
