Often it is not about training the dog to alert, it is training the humans to see the dog alerting. If a dog loves you it will alert for blood sugar by nature.

Try and get them to find and isolate the thing we say causes pandemics first. Clearly we can isolate and identify it so let the dogs give it a go.

Animals would have to love us unconditionally. If they saw us for who we are, they'd say screw em, tell you all the contaminated samples were OK, drain the toilet of water, and go tree a cat. Who saw us for us, from day one and are contemptuous that it took the dogs so long to catch on.

"The next pandemic" ? The current COVID pandemic is still raging on and dogs could be useful for testing, and a lot in general could be done to mitigate it.
