Sony's mind: Hmm, Since we're selling it for 399$ in the US and 399€ in Europe, it's only logic to sell it for R$3999 in Brazil since R$399 would be too cheap.

It's sony's fault, even with the government taxes (60~100%) it would cost about $900 plus shipment, here we call it brazilian cost .

Consume the same products as you. Imagine ps4 costing $ 1.800 in your country

wow, almost 5x the cost. Could Brazilians just order it off amazon or ebay, etc?

I'm assuming wages in brazil are relatively higher so that the price is relatively the same as it is here?

You think wrong. The Xbone has been up for preorder in brazilian stores for several months, and it is going for R$2200, while the price that you just see announced for the PS4 is R$3999.

No. Since 1995, the definition "First World" applies to the well-developed countries (including those in E-Europe, Oceania, Asia). The "Third World" refers to countries which are legging behind in development.
The "Second World" definition is now rarely used, but today it applies to NICs, which are the likes of China, Brazil, India, Russia.

First World used to refer to the Western Allies, Second World to the Warsaw Pact, and the Third World to the rest, but those definitions are no longer used.

Strange indeed, only two things could cause this to happen, the first is that Brazil has inflation problems which means more paper currency printed to compensate which raises the price or heavy taxation and tariffs on the PS 4 Consoles being shipped in from Japan or wherever they're shipped from, Sony would than have to raise the prices in order to make a profit from selling them.

when u go to the shopping cart to end the shop the taxes appear, i tried many times buying things from amazon, but the taxes stopped me, some years ago didnt have the taxes, but brazil made a partnership with amazon last year, so you pay all the taxes on the end of the shop

you arent tecnicaly wrong actually, the tax varies with the "class" of import, but the imports that are classified as the "gambling" profile are taxed in 600%. Sometimes, the Federal Police does that to individuals who import game consoles. (i assumed you are brazilian on this one, and you know that not everyone have the same luck/lack of it with them)

It's almost that. A lot of schools have English classes also, and we're encouraged to learn it, since it's kind of a popular language heh. That, and also the fact that games are incredibly popular here, and a lot of people end up learning it by playing.

Not sure if this is true but Gamespot says that Xbone is cheaper in Brazil. Check it out.

Whats your point? next gen games cost 120-180$ in NZ, which is about 110 to 170$ in AUD

That doesn't surprise me, the same thing happens in Honduras. PS3 was about $1000 when it launched and games have always been $90-$100

That's a shame too, but here's the thing, people don't seem to be able to grasp the importance of a console's success in Brazil.
Brazil is a huge fucking market for videogames, man. So huge that brazilian gamers became a meme.
