You flip on the radio, and a voice crackles through the air—no wires, no connection—just pure wireless magic. But how does this miracle happen? In this episode of History of Simple Things, we decode the hidden world of radio transmission antennas. From towering steel giants broadcasting across cities to micro-antennas embedded in smartphones, discover how these unassuming devices power everything from AM/FM radio to 5G, satellite comms, and beyond.

We dive into the electromagnetic magic, the engineering marvels, and the modulation methods that make wireless communication possible. Whether you're a tech lover, radio enthusiast, or just curious how your voice assistant hears you—this is the story behind the signal.

A nice presentation of the most common antenna type which couples with the electric field. What would have been a nice addition would have been discussing antennas designed to couple with the magnetic field. These can be very small, but have some interesting challenges to make work correctly.

What I'd have hoped for in this video is some explanation of what shape of antennae directs or receives what type of RF wave?

I thought it would be a bit more technical. I wanted a bit more information.
Actually only gives a general idea if what an antenna does and not really how "Antenna's Work" as the heading says.
They are very technical and need proper construction to work efficiently. Very interesting and complex yet actually simple.

It is such a great channel one of the most interesting subjects to me, wireless communication and perhaps energy distribution in the future.

How about muti band HF antennas. In amateur(ham) radio, where wave lengths an be any where from 10 meters t 160 meters.

Do a video on how Tesla coils work...are these essentially radio transmitters that allows energy to accumulate in the antenna (secondary coil), instead of radiating out into space?

It blows my mind how a repeater can be broadcasting while receiving using THE SAME ANTENNA. HUH???
