Vitamin C by Can (Drum Part Demonstration)

Показать описание
If you've ever wanted to learn the drum beat for Vitamin C by Can, you can see it demonstrated here in this brief drum cover.
The drummer on this song is Jaki Liebzeit.
This song appears on the Can album, Ege Bamyasi.
If you're having any trouble playing this beat, practice your paradiddle substituting your kick for your right hand and move your right hand to the hi hat. Make sure to accent the left hand where it falls on the back beat and ghost all the other left hand notes. The independence of limbs is, for me, most challenging when dynamics and accents are applied.
Jaki Liebzeit is really inspiring to me. Obviously an innovator of the krautrock movement and a master of syncopated and rhythmic elements that have come to largely define the style, Jaki also brings a great sense of dynamics to the drum set. He has such a great touch when he's playing these delicate parts, but they still seem to dig in.
In addition to Can, he also played on the Michael Rother late-70's records as well as Brian Eno's "Before and After Science (1977). He even makes a guest appearance on Depeche Mode "Ultra" (1997)
I spent many hours playing along to this record (Ege Bamyasi) as well as its predecessor (Tago Mago, 1971) and follow-up (Future Days, 1973) and it was a real pleasant surprise to hear it placed in the Paul Thomas Anderson film Inherent Vice.
Side note: I heard a story once that Jaki could make a person physically ill by playing "at them."
As always, I am playing Istanbul Agop Cymbals and Promark sticks.
