Unknown Mortal Orchestra performing Vitamin C (Can) live at The Oxford Arts Factory in Sydney on 7 December 2011

Unknown Mortal Orchestra signed to Fat Possum Records for their self-titled debut LP out in late June. UMO was initially conceived by New Zealand native, Ruban Neilson, to release some tracks via bandcamp to promote his limited addition vinyl in 2010. He pieced a band together, with a skilled producer, Jake, on bass and a brilliant teenage drummer named Julien to fill out the band. They bring break-beats together with 60's/70's Beatles sounding pop harmonies and a minimal Krautrock rhythm section. They are based in Portland

I would flip if I went to a random concert and heard the band do a cover of this.

This is a super interpretation of a terrific psychedelic--funk-Krautrock masterpiece by Can.

Why the hate? They freakin' killed it.

The dislikes are all from people who lost all their vitamin C.

This cover was fucking phenomenal! To say that it was anything less than phenomenal, is insane! Go back and listen to it again. Only this time listen to it through headphones, earbuds, or every speaker in your house, like I did. If you don't experience goosebumps several times throughout the song, you lose. You're doing it wrong!

That's what I call a 'Can do' attitude.

Very nice cover. One thing: what always fascinates me on the CAN original is the almost superhuman bassdrum triplets, maintained so perfectly thoughout the song. Thise are what makes that recording so special. Jaki Liebezeit was a unique virtuoso. Nevertheless, these guys prove that without them it’s still a great song.

What's more perfect than perfect? That's how perfectly Ruban Neilson's voice fits this song.

Great cover! They gave it their own spin while retaining the spirit of the original. To argue whether UMO is a better / worse band than Can is almost a moot point (Can being one of the greatest musical outifts ever, really) - this was a great version of a classic.

I don't get the cynic comments on this cover. We are looking at a great live performance wich should be taken as it is. kudos to umo.

Not every Cover of a song has to be a perfect imitation of the original. Different takes on the same song are much more interesting. But that's just my opinion.
