Crusade 1: A New Crusade
Crusade 2: Muslim Boogaloo
Crusade 3: Saladin Strikes back
Crusade 4: Revenge of the Crusaders
Crusade 5: A New Beginning
Crusade 6: The Rise of Frederick
Crusade 7: The Fall of Jerusalem
Crusade 8: Louis' Retribution
Crusade 9: Henry goes to Hell

Things got stale and the series stagnated, so we thankfully never got Crusade X

"Except the Byzantines. They're always purple." THANK YOU SO MUCH. People don't understand that some things just should be a certain way or else a map looks weird.

Trivia: When returning from the second crusade, the king of France was super happy to introduce prunes to Europe,
since then and to that day in France "Tout ça pour des prunes" "All of this for prunes" means you've shown no result

Fun Fact: The Holy Roman Emperor, Frederick II von Hohenstauffen, led the 6th crusade while excommunicated by the Pope (who described him as the "Anti-Christ"). This meant that, technically, he wasn't able to go on crusade in the first place, but - hey - details.

"1 Napoleon out of 5 Russia's in the winter"

Too soon.

Hey, why let not liking the Crusades get in the way of a good Crusade?

Moral of the Story: Dimplomacy, diplomacy, diplomacy! Everything goes so much smoother when people are direct and talk things out.

"If you clicked on this video looking for a summary of failed, multi-century attempts to recapture a small, religiously relevant municipality, then you are in the right place"

Great.

Why let a little war get in the way of a good crusade

"Yes, I actually want to do that, let's do a crusade!"
*CRUSADE~*
They did many crusades, some of which almost didn't fail.

I appreciate Blue having a sympathetic and charitable tone to a bloody period in Christian history. You guys are becoming my favourite history channel for getting the gist of the matter.

There was also that one time thousands of children were rallied to march into the Holy Land, only to either die in the Alps or get sold into slavery. That one was probably the saddest one of them all.

The Crusade of Varna had JUST ended with the deaths of the rulers of 3 major European countries.
It was a disastrous loss for Europe.
They weren’t in a position to just go and do another crusade when Byzantium fell.

I like to imagine the Crusades started with a conversation like this:
Byzantine Empire: Hey Urban my man you mind gathering some knights to help us retake our eastern territory from the Turks?
Pope Urban II: Could we go to the Levant and retake Jerusalem while we're there?
Byzantines: I mean sure if you really-
*rumbling in the distance*
Crusaders: *sprints through Anatolia and headbutts into the Levant*

The Crusades were like most longrunning franchises that started in the 80s: The 1st one was cool, the next 2 range from slightly better than the 1st to absolutely terrible, and all the rest were a mistake

If you’re looking to understand how people at the time justifies them, try focusing in on the first crusade and how much the peasantry chose to participate without being asked.

Great video blue, but I would also like to mention the not as well known crusades like the peasants crusade and the saddest in my opinion, the children's crusade. If you were to ever revisit this subject, I would like to hear more history on those 2, cause I'm wondering what some of them were thinking at that time.
