The 2025 Lucid Air Sapphire ($249,999 in the US, $327,300 in Canada) is the fastest production sedan in the world. It has a comical 1234 horsepower and an absolutely ridiculous claimed 0-60 mph time of just 1.89 seconds. But is that much power usable on the road? As a Lucid Air GT owner, I can say no one needs the speed. I drive my Lucid daily, going on 42k miles, and I have launched in sprint mode twice. Most days, I'm in smooth, and that is enough. This week, I am trying swift; it's still too much speed. I love my car because I can do a 1000-mile road trip with my daughters with only 2 stops. I love my car. There is a rollercoaster in the UK called Rita that simply accelerates in a straight line doing 0-60 in 2.5 seconds. If you’ve ever been on it, you’ll know how unrelentingly fast it feels. To think that there is a car that goes a full 30% faster is absolutely insane.

When these first came out, I'm not super into EVs, but I respect the work that Lucid does and thought they held promise. Up until maybe this last year, I'd never seen one on the roads around us. Now quite suddenly, I see one just about every day. If I were forced to buy an EV, Lucid would get my vote over other options (outside of maybe a Rimac if I had Stupid money to play with). The engineering team at Lucid impressed the hell out of me as a kindred spirit as well as capable.

I wouldn't say that the Sapphire is dumb. It is a flagship. Not a car that people should buy necessarily, but a car that showcases Lucid's technology. It puts them on the radar to people who might not have heard about them before. They set lap records (for EV road legal cars) etc and that creates free advertising for the company. It's not dumb, it's a flex. But if you were buying one for yourself, you'd get one of the lower models knowing it's still an incredible car and shares the DNA of the sapphire. It's like the Porsche Cayenne GT. It's outrageous and most people would buy a lower spec model but it's still cool that it exists and shows that Porsche can make even a large SUV super fast.

As an Air Grand Touring owner, I can confidently say the speed of these are not the stand out feature. It's the incredible ride and handling balance. It is literally the broadest performance envelope of any car I've owned.

lucid gt owner here, i run a hypercar events company, i've driven, everything. this is for actual daily use, the best car i've ever owned regardless of powertrain. buying another one and the SUV when it comes out. it's simply perfection.

Lucid make amazing cars and technology (batteries, motors etc). It's a real shame that investors have not been giving them the money they need to grow.
