Cat Stevens wrote it, didn't want to release it, gave it to Jimmy Cliff, produced it for him, but later on recorded it himself for the American public and was a giant hit and was later on covered by Mr. Big and was a big hit as well.

I don’t understand some of these comments, Jimmy Cliff is on of the fathers of Reggae, it would not be what it is today but for his work. Cat Stevens wrote this and Jimmy gently moulded it to his style.

Such a beautiful song. I didn’t know of this version til just now. Maxi Priest’s version has always been one of my favourite reggae songs

I grew up with this song hearing it everywhere for years, being a rockperson, but it always gets in my head, when there's something on the news, rembering it is a wild world. It is also the first reggae minded artist, before we knew the 'reggae'
word, for all i know anyway.
Had long ago an 'obscure' Keith Richards single, with the New Babarians called The harder they come, a J.C song. We used it for parties, a special surprice, for it was very hard to get.
