Показать описание
Jimmy Cliff came into this world as James Chambers on 30th July 1944 in Somerton, near Montego bay, Jamaica. He later moved to Kingston where he met Count Boysie who recorded his debut 'Daisy Got Me Crazy' which sadly faltered. Undeterred he released 'I'm Sorry' with producer Sir Cavalier but found greater success with 'Dearest Beverly' c/w 'Hurricane Hattie' produced by Leslie Kong, followed by the ska classic 'Miss Jamaica.'
In 1964, he was selected by the Jamaican government to promote home-grown talent at the World's Fair in New York. In 1968 he won first place in a Brazilian song contest with, 'Waterfall.' Through Island records he released his album debut in 1969 and scored a crossover hit with, 'Wonderful World, Beautiful People.' A year later he returned to the pop charts with our featured track 'Wild World' and also relished hits as composer for the Pioneers ('Let Your Yeah Be Yeah'/'Give And Take') and Desmond Dekker ('You Can Get It If You Really Want') .
His legendary status was assured when he starred in and provided most of the soundtrack to the cult classic 'The Harder They Come' which led to the Island albums 'Another Cycle, followed by `Struggling Man.' A change of label led to 'Unlimited' and 'Brave Warrior' He continued to release a series of albums including 'Follow My Mind,' 'The Power And The Glory' 'Live In Concert' `Special' the excellent `Breakout,' the Grammy award winning 'Cliff Hanger' and `Rebirth.'
He returned to movies in the disappointing 'Club Paradise' and a returned to the pop charts with a version of Johnny Nash's 'I Can See Clearly Now', that featured in the film 'Cool Runnings' and 'Hakuna Matata' to the soundtrack of 'The Lion King'.
