Of course I go backpacking with a backpack, sleeping bag, tent, and the big obvious stuff. But what are the overlooked items that I rely upon for my backpacking adventures? I've compiled my list of critical backpacking gear that might not get much attention.

Camp pillow is a big fat YES. The extra weight is SO worth the improved sleep. I slept SO well on my last backpacking trip, in part because I use a pillow.

One thing I added a few years ago. Garmin inReach Mini. Well worth the safenet it adds to when I'm out in the middle of nowhere.

I agree with packing a rain jacket for every trip. I just backpacked in 80 degree weather but my hike out turn to 30 mph wind and rain. Glad I had my rain jacket.

I've started bringing chocolate covered espresso beans for caffeine fix on trail. They are great.

Amen brother must have coffee! Those are some great extra items to have. I'll tell you something right now, sea to Summit is a little too high dollar for my wallet but I've been collecting backpacking gear since I was 12 years old so I think I've got plenty enough to do me. Thanks for the video have a great day and stay safe and stay dry!

Didn't bring coffee on my last backpacking trip and the morning just wasn't the same!

I drink whatever coffee I can find . I love great tasting coffee but the real reason I drink coffee when out in the trail is because long days of hiking can constipate. Coffee alleviates that issue. What I cannot go without is a hydration powder like Liquid IV, Hydrate, Drip Drop, LMNT, Nuun. Personally I like Liquid IV but some products offer less sugar and that is a consideration for some especially diabetics .

Going on my first backing packing trip next week and looking for best bang for buck on a shelter and sleep system setup. Any recommendations? If I don’t have to spend the full 500 that will be great lol.

I think i would of put personnel locator in there instead of coffee, saving your life probably a little more priority and they are so easy to carry now days.

We never go without our dog. Colt. That limits our trails and daily mileage.

I love your videos, your directing them and your video edditing!
All those items I also bring with me, but please bring a 2-way radio with the local safety frequency predialed.
It can save someones life if not yours. It has happened to me on a ski-mo trip where I was able to help someone in need!
