There's some things I never hit the trail without. I'm not talking about the most obvious pieces of gear in this video, like my tent or sleeping bag, but rather some key items that I like to bring with me on my hiking trips that, quite simply, make them the best.

What are some items that you never hike without? Tell me in the comments below! 👇

This is great, and I think you're the first backpacker that is cool with drinking. I was beginning to think they were all hippies

I think the raincoat is the most important piece of gear here. Take one even if you plan to day hike. If something out the ordinary happens and you are forced to stay in the woods overnight, a good standard full size poncho can serve as an excellent shelter. And it is really light weight, too!

Agree on all counts, except for the double wall cup. They can't be heated! I have my titanium cup or my Army canteen cup for cooking and general use. My coffee isn't usually around long enough to get too cool but if it does I can put my cup near the fire and keep it warm. I bought a double wall titanium Snow Peak mug but didn't really think about only being able to just drink out of it.

Replace the peanut butter jar with PB powder, less weight, bulk and unnecessary macros. Forget the alcohol, memories of a great day hiking a better replacement for bulk, weight and empty calories. We enjoy your insight, suggestions and content. Thanks! We’re completing our Triple Crown this year, 600 miles on the AT.

Great video! For me the hard shell jacket would have been one of the obvi's, like tent, stove, etc. Of course I live in Vermont and primarily hike the Green's, White's, and Dack's, so... 😁

Peanut butter is an excellent fire starter. It’s also my go to for baiting food that tastes like meat.

Awesome list, I would like to add a headlamp and hand warmers. Hand warmers alone have a million and one uses, especially up here in the north east.
