There are more timezones. India, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, some territories of Australia and other countries have 30 minutes offset (e.g. India +5:30), Nepal (+5:45) and the Chatham Islands (+12:45) even have a 45 minute offset.

It is more then 24. there is +:30 timezones (India or Mid-Austrailia) and +:45 (Nepal) and +13(Samoa, Tonga) and +14 (Line islands in Kiribati)

straight lines would be the best option. with the current division a lot of small cities and villages are splitted in two different regions and is not a chaos, just use both hours

In Brazil we have four! GMT -2, GMT -3 (Brasília time, the time considered official), GMT -4 and GMT -5.
