This is a pretty terrifying video about social networking and the data they sell on people.

Important facts to understand are that for example Facebook had categories for advertising that allowed advertisers to select or deselect people who were Nazis, or people who had an African-American affinity, or users who were over a certain age.

The ability to make these choices means that corporate America or political groups can acts secretly with certain groups without anyone else knowing in a mass automated manner.

They talk about trying to fix this in Facebook by not allowing these certain pre-set menu choices, but this is not going to go away and the data is already out there in the hands of a lot of groups. We can never know, this is happening behind the backs of we who are responsible for being good citizens.

These abilities leave Orwell far behind in the dust.
