The Portuguese Bend area has been known to be an ancient landslide for many decades. No one should live there. And no houses should’ve been built there. The only thing that this land is good for, is a temporary campground. I get that Justin wants to stay in his house, but you can’t live on a landslide. It’s unsustainable. Nothing permanent should be there.

That ground was shifting fifty years ago. I was always amazed at the expensive homes people built there.

The sooner they get out of that neighborhood, the less money they're going to lose. Get out now. They should just turn the entirety of that peninsula back into a nature preserve.

People are seriously stupid. The ground is shifting beneath my feet, but I want to stay because my kid loves playing with bugs. Smgdh

I am really sorry to hear this. They need to accept that it's over. The peninsula is unstable. The residents need to run for their lives...

The land under your homes is moving - deluded denial of the danger!

I grew up in the area and everyone has always known the land is not stable there. Beautiful homes have been built and bought there and even as a kid we knew how unstable the land was - it was one of my science projects...measuring the how much the cracks in the asphalt grew over a period of just a few months.

Parts of the landslide have been moving at more than a foot per week and it is not feasible for the infrastructure of gas, electricity, water, and sewer systems to continue operating across the edges where the motion is most intense.

They've literally been saying it might get shut off electricity for more than a month.

These residents should sign a statements that they take full responsibility for anything that happens to them and their house because they chose to stay... I don't see how everyone else has to pay for this.

What do they expect? This is totally stupid. It’s dangerous out there. They need to leave.

The condition is unlivable. Justin needs to move out. He is stubborn and unreasonable. They should never build those houses in that hill anyway.

Electrical fire is a real danger for the entire area.
Safety first.

No footage of his son eating all those bugs, birds and lizards? Journalism is dead.

Prayers for all families who are being affected by this. 🙏

PG&E automatically cuts off our electricity in the Sierra foothills at the slightest breeze.

I urge everyone speak out and demand during the upcoming election to allocate more money towards infrastructure and communities. The billions of dollars spent on wars, many of which could potentially be avoided through diplomacy and conflict resolution strategies, could be better utilized to address the pressing needs of our state.

Remember the horrible fires that killed people in Lahaina because of the electrical issues? I safe is better. There are lots of places that have nature and cool insects and stuff, to the man with a child that loves it all! Personally, I would be so freaked out about the ground sliding under but, I am stubborn too so I am not sure what I would do. Blessings to you all!
