Note! In the Minecraft build I'd go 600 Watt PSU not 550 Watt.
What is everyone looking to build this holiday season?

When I saw that Azza pyramid case, I about died. LGR reviewed that thing about a year ago and that thing is absolutely massive, it's footprint is huge, and it weighs a ton.

i think TUF psu's are very underrated. they are relatively cheap, B-tier in psu cultist list and they also are cybenetics certified which is a huge plus. i think these are the best value psu's.

Small SSD are a real problem because of two things:

1. SSD's are sold in terms of Giga bytes = 10^6 bytes and Tera bytes = 10^9 bytes, but Windows, Linux, and every other operating system I can think of report file sizes in terms of Gibi bytes = 2^20 bytes and Tebi Bytes = 2^30 bytes. So that 1 Tera byte = 1000 Giga byte drive you bought is really 931 Gibi bytes, which will show up as 931 GB in Window (or Linux or Mac etc) since 10^9/2^30 = 0.931.

2. SSD also needs free space for overprovisioning. My Samsung drive recommends 9% for overprovisioning so that's what I use. Otherwise an SSD can get slower than a mechanical drive if you get it near 100% full.

So if I buy a 250 Giga byte SSD, well it's really 238.4 Gibi byte, which will be shown by your OS as 238.4GB. Now chop off 9% of that for overprovisioning and you're at 216.9GB usable storage. Windows 10 is another 30GB or so after you install all your drivers, .NET, and the Visual Studio updates needed for games, and lets add another 1GB or so for the XBox app. Google Chrome will be around another 6GB. So now you're at a 180GB of usable space with a complete barebones updated Windows and a web browser. Flight Simulator recommends 150GB of free space, so you're left with about 30 GB free space after that. And this isn't an exaggeration, I still run a 250GB SSD that I bought in 2015 (back when that was a reasonable size, though still kind of small even then) and when I wanted to play Flight Simulator on PC Game Pass I had to delete every other game from my SSD as well as other launchers eg Origin, Epic Game Store, Ubisoft Connect, etc just to have room for the game without deleting programs I need to be on my PC for day to day usage.

Also don't kill me for still running a 250GB SSD, or should I really say 216.9GB SSD, in 2023. I don't want to upgrade to a new SSD until I see if DirectStorage gets implemented enough in games to make a fast SSD worth the money. But no one should buy a 250GB SSD right now. 500GB is decent though and reasonably priced.

I’m looking to build a new PC for the first time in 10yrs and felt overwhelmed by all the options. I want to play Minecraft with shaders, so I wasn’t sure what the best components would be and I’m on a budget. This video was just the advice I needed. Thank you so much!

The Hyte Revolt ($129) and NZXT H1 ($199) were recently on sale and they’re great choices for SFF builds (both have 700/750W PSUs also)

Next time someone want to make a SFF build you can recommend the Sama IM01 that is been sold for $65 and it fix a Matx Mobo and a ATX PSU and is around 20L. Is like a NR200 but for Matx boards.

I haven't built a pc since 2013. Last pc was a pre-built one. So been doing research gearing up for a pc for work and some gaming. Thanks for your series and black Friday deals I'm putting it together for 900 bucks. Little over kill for work however it's a very capable pc for many uses including gaming. Please keep these videos coming. They are so helpful. I also enjoyed your videos on right gpu to right cpu. That was incredible helpfully.

Hey PC Builder! I was wondering whether the RYZEN 5 5600 cpu works with the ROG STRIX B500-F motherboard, because pcpartpicker says that the ryzen 5600 bios is not compatible? Im building my first pc and need some advice, thanks!

5 is bad, its a simple rule, do not go below 60 with nvidia, do not go below 600 with AMD. The companies shouldn't even make this junk.

I'm not even looking to build a new PC right now as I just built my second PC, but I'm enjoying watching this because it reminds me of the mistakes I made building my first PC and it's awesome to see viewers save a ton of money and/or frustration if they decide to follow your advice.

i just bought my parts yesterday, all except for the gpu and one of the m.2s because they are out stock/back ordered. i plan on undervolting both the cpu and gpu and i will not be using the system at max load like ever as it will be used for 1080p gaming + video production. the possibility of getting a dedicated sound card is somewhat likely depending on how the onboard audio sounds.
cpu: amd 7700x
cooler: arctic 240 argb
gpu: nvidia 4080- gigabyte aero (white)
motherboard: asrock b650 livemixer (orange)
case: lian li 216 (white)
storage: a 1 tb + a 2 tb samsung 980 pro
ram: g.skill ripjaws ddr5 6000 32gb 2 x 16 (white and black, non rgb)
psu: thermaltake toughpower gf3 850w (because atx 3.0)

Wow, such hyperbole! There's actually no such thing as a "gaming" motherboard, "gaming" RAM, "gaming" SSD, "gaming" PSU, etc. The Gigabyte B550 Gaming X V2 is certainly not "garbage." It's got all the connectivity most gamers need and a decent enough VRM section to run or 5600X or even a 5700X without issue. Given that most gamers use very mediocre headsets and/or powered speakers, perhaps even their monitor's speakers, the motherboard's audio hardware matters about as much as the color of its trim. Anyone who really needs high-quality audio should be using an external sound card and DAC anyway. So calling the V2 garbage because it has mediocre audio is just hyperbole.

17:38 are those GPUs actually legit? they seem fishy at best 🤔
Edit: Upon further investigation, the 580s that say "2048SP" are basically RX 570s with reduced core counts, clockspeeds, and TDP compared to the normal RX 580, which might be a good thing if you're looking for a GPU that uses as little power as possible because your power supply is just as sketchy as these Chinese OEM GPUs
