There are 4 women here, traumatized, hurt, betrayed. Each of them deals with it differently. MaKhumalo keeps a positive spirit and tries to keep the peace by agreeing with everything. MaYeni is completely disengaged and while she may show up physically, her body and mind indicate that she’s always elsewhere. MaNgwabe is also disengaged and is demonstrating this by keeping her time occupied with other people and things. MaCele has dressed herself up in armour to prevent people from pushing her over as the first wife. She therefore ends up saying hurtful things or coming off as a bully as part of this cos play. It’s just different people dealing with an unfavourable situation in 4 different ways!

I think what makes maCele and the other wives talk like this, I'm assuming about maYeni, is that she is fiercely independent, self aware and has not and will not compromise her own identity for the sake of her marriage.
She speaks her mind without fear or favor and that can irritate even the best of people.

I admire the lesson that she's teaching her own daughters and her sons that you should never compromise yourself for the sake of a man or woman. It can't be easy and judging by maCeles constant ''you found me here'' speech, I'm glad that maYeni continues to stand her ground and that is EXACTLY how married life should be.
