Poor Hosoda, to this day is frustrated with the fact that Toei wouldn't let him implement his original concept for Bokura in War Game and to this day he continues to try to do that with Summers Wars and Belle. But I understand it completely and support its preservation!

I remember I was visiting an art museum when I caught Summer Wars playing there just by chance. I didn't know anything about it going in but it looked like a cool anime movie. Not long into the movie I was like.. huh, this premise reminds me of the Digimon movie. Then when it got to the digital cyber space part I couldn't believe it. I was so gassed. It was pretty much a remake of Our War Game.

The moment I saw Justin use that green beam weapon to "unveil" the beast/dragon character I instantly remembered Omnimon's Supreme Cannon attack in Our War Game, specifically the 4th shot where it zooms in on the MetalGarurumon arm firing the attack and the lion head firing the 4th green beam.
The fact both scenes during the 4th attack are EXACTLY the same is so freaking awesome.
Mamoru Hosoda is a freaking legend.

This was a great video on all of the movies mentioned too not just Belle, you really out-did yourself with this commentary. I really like that Summer Wars and Belle are parallel extensions of Our War Game as you said also!

Interesting theory, maybe Hosoda sensei can do one giant crossover one day. Even these three movies were made by different animation studios: Digimon Movies 1+2 (Toei Animation), Summer Wars (Madhouse), then recent Belle (Studio Chizu).

I saw Belle a couple weeks ago in Imax, it was absolutely worth it! And i totally noticed the connections with Digimon too. Its fun to think of each of these movies as a point in time. Digimon Our War Game was the early days of the internet, Summer Wars was when everyone was getting online, finally Belle is about internet fame and anonymity, and the pros and cons of both. Great video. The concert sphere in Belle is exactly like the diaboromon-covered sphere in Digimon 2000, and the unveiling-gun in Belle is exactly like the super cannon thing the good Digimon use to wipe out diaboromon's clones. So many similarities, I loved it

It's so great that all 3 of these films feel so connected And yet all have their very distinct personalities. It's unfortunate he's not as well known Belle did pretty well a few years ago Not quite as well as Not quite as well as Suzume the other year, both are remarkable films

I absolutely love this unofficial trilogy and I haven't watched the whole video yet, but I'd like to add my two cents by talking about how Bokura no War Game is about technology, Summer Wars is about family affected by technology and Belle is about family created by technology, and all of the three talk about how you can find support from all kinds of people
