It's a Cultural thing - while the French are more physical, they kiss and touch, however physical contact (socially) is not part of British culture.

Rather the first lady was too chummy. Royals do not hold hands in public, particularly not with strangers. Perhaps the first lady was extremely nervous in the presence of royalty and tried to over compensated.

Our Queen would never snub anyone, the Queen is graceful, duty full and stands by royal tradition. It was inappropriate at that moment to hold hands and our Queen quite rightly did the right thing by NOT holding hands. It was NOT snub, but royal protocol, our Queen managed the situation with respect and grace! God save our Queen!!

To me it just looked like she was making sure that Queen Camilla didn’t step to far back as there was a ledge her shoe heel could have caught in. Safety first. No snub.
