RIDE 4 Review - The Final Verdict

The real shame of RIDE 4 is that there's the bones of a decent racing game here. It looks and sounds the part, and you can tell that there was passion put into it.

There's plenty of bikes and tracks, and they're all lovingly rendered and animated in beautiful detail. The physics simulation is detailed and accurate, doing a great job of differentiating the various bikes and weather conditions.

And when the game isn't fighting you, it's possible to have some fun. But the lack of content and leggy controls hold back this game from truly shining. RIDE 4 can be really hard on newcomers, and if that is the case then the game seems utterly uninterested in helping you progress or improve. It simply presents itself to you, demanding perfection at all times and promising little in return.

Love when the person reviewing the game decides to give it a low score based solely on the fact that they suck at playing it.

Input lag? That my friend is sheer ignorance. Compared to a car from input to result, sure bikes are slower to react. That's because the rider has to shift their weight over to the inside before they can turn, have you never ridden a bicycle at speed around a corner? If you just turn the handlebars you'll fall off the bike, therefore you need to start turning before the corner. I mean you had the racing line on, that takes care of where to place the bike, accelerate and slow down (and by how much roughly). All you need to do it follow them and learn when to start turning and how much to lean.

I literally haven't played a bike game since MotoGP 07 and I understand that.

I play this game in real life. Guess my bike lags when its doesnt instantly roll into a corner like nfs.

Funny, this review makes me convinced I’ll love this game! I’m looking for a realistic simulation so I can ride in winter when I can’t hit the track. The reality is that turning a sport bike IS actually hard work—way harder to get a bike around a curve than any car. Following the racing lines (which btw were drawn for you in blue) is mandatory on a bike and not nearly as easy as you may think. Sounds like this game has nailed it. Thanks for a helpful review.

I'm not a sim racer, or anything. The tutorial wasn't hard at all. Got the gold medal on the first try. If you can't do bronze, in like 3 tries, this game isn't for you, and you won't get better. NOTE: I'm a noob.

Watching you attempting to play this is amusing however you shouldn't say the game is bad because you don't understand a racing line. The tutorial was extremely simple.

"There is no challenge mode."
Good.
"No legacy mode."
Good.
"All you have is races."
Good.
"That's it."
Sounds perfect.

I spent 230 hours on ride 3! and so far 16 hours on ride 4.. and i play on realistic physics on both ride 4 and 3! and let me tell you guys this, the game is a superb motorcycle game. When i started ride 4 at the beginning me and my buddies were like damn this is a whole different game than ride 3, we did the career trying to unlock new bikes and make money, after reaching level 34 I literally got used to everything, and started to think that ride 3 was dull comparing to this. It's not an easy game whatsoever, but as a biker the throttle response and going full throttle on corners feel just like the real deal. I friggin love this game and I would give it an 8 out of 10.

Mate, watching you try to ride that bike was tortuous. It's completely understandable you had trouble.
You were oversteeering and understeering, even leaning as if leading into a corner on straight bits!. Bike riding games seems to not be your strong suit.

His opinion i guess. For me so far this is an 8/10 game I'm really enjoying it. If u like bikes and the gran turismo type of presentation then this is the game for you

What you say is "the controls in this game suck", what I hear is "I have no idea how a motorcycle handles". What I see is "I have no idea how a motorcycle handles or how you ride one". Really curious how you'd be able to pass judgement about how well the physics are implemented when it is obvious that there is no knowledge about the real life physics in the first place.

I mean. Look at how he's driving, of course it's going to handle terrible if you don't know what your doing. It's like he has never played a bike racing sim

Please read this if you are having trouble with game play!! To get rid of the "stiff controls" and "lagging turns (bad responsiveness) change it to "REALISTIC Your bike will now ride like in Ride 3, 2, and 1!!!! I gave up on this game months ago came back and turned on " realistic" your bike will no longer feel like it's turning on ice with no way to kick out the back tire. You will have more "feel"!

What a marvelous review by a legendary reviewer. Can't even control the bike properly and blames the games control 😂

"It simply presents itself to you, demanding perfection at all times and promising little in return" That is exactly what i expect from a good racing game. It´s not meant to be easy and compelling at first.
And what is little for you, is exactly the right thing for me...

Lol this guy doesn't know how to control the bike (no wonder he thinks its the games fault, breaking in the corner as you are turning will give you less control whilst trying to turn, acceleration in the corner will also cause you to have trouble turning, my point is to get someone who knows how to play bike games to review it rather than a complete novice.)

I'm really surprised at this review. The handling is fantastic, there's a huge amount of content, tons of bikes, races and challenges. Also the presentation is almost on a par with Gran Turismo. I'm a long time Gran Turismo player and this game feels like GT on two wheels. The riding is so satisfying when you nail a track. I do agree that maybe there should be more of a tutorial for newcomers though.

I recently bought Rims Racing and completely agreed with your review on that game. That was pretty disappointing. Ride 4 definitely doesn't deserve the same score as Rims.

When you find yourself spending considerable time turning left in a right hand turn, and you aren't drifting, you're not doing it right.

The game is literally drawing the race line for you. Why are you avoiding it like oncoming traffic?

I've never played a motorbike game before perhaps ever, and am having a blast with it. As much as I enjoyed crashing and failing, I also enjoyed learning the controls and physics with no help. It reminds me of Gran Turismo really. You probably do not like games that has a certain depth in gameplay.
