Rooting Strawberry runners in Coco Coir and Pearlite for Hydroponic systems or planters.

Just recently I decided I'd like to try some strawberries in an NFT system because I was so inspired by my buddy Larry's (Austin Family Gardening) amazing successes. I noticed my strawberries were sending out runners so I thought I'd just root them out in Coco Coir and also try Pearlite as a rooting medium. Both worked but the Coco way out performed the Pearlite. I also talk about some future plans to try some long distance growing tests with a few other growers. I hope you enjoy the video. Please give a thumbs up if you liked the video or better yet subscribe.

What a Awesome idea using the net cups to root strawberry plants. This is why I love YT- always learning something new. It doesn't get easier than that. Plant roots & drop it in the nft. can't wait for your new projects to get going. Love watching your videos in the morning- you put me in a great mood & ended having a great day. You might have to get a shoulder strap if your mugs keep getting bigger. Take care
Larry

Hi Benjamin! I'm just going to keep them going inside to put them out again this spring because they were such great producers. Most likely they will go under 125w fluorescents. I don't want to bring the whole plant in and over winter it because I've infected my grow room with bugs before by doing that so now I just take new cuttings cause they are easy to control and they save so much time as opposed to growing from seed all the time :)

Nice job rooting the strawberries and the peppers, never tried it. I've got 100 bare root strawberry plants on the bar over there. Getting ready to get them in a raised bed. Who doesn't love strawberries? ... and home brew?

I had the same thing happen to me with peppers last year. What a surprise, huh? That banana tree is gorgeous. I am growing one this year but it is still a little baby. Good seeing you again.

Brock, wanted to let you know that I am now using perlite with about 4" of gravel and/or hydroton in the bottom of bucket and then topping off with perlite and no issues. I can now get perlite for $12 per 4 cu ft bag, so that is the cheapest way for me to go.

I hear you, and agree. Many plants bear fruit and when you pick them, they will bear more. That is how they survive. I picked another one today. The plant is going down hill, as most bottom leaves are drying up. I am now starting on my greenhouse. Stay tuned.

The long green pepper you say is very hot looks like a Serrano pepper I use them all the time take out the seeds and it flavored food very well without salt. I love em

Hi Brock, Just sending you a picture of my PUPS from my dwarf Banana plant. They are so beautiful. But to my surprise i also found another adult PUP hiding behind the mature plant. And it also looks a lot like yours. I think they probably come from the same family. To you and all, have a nice day and be good to all. Paul

No worries bro :) Its 2x4 construction with a full floor "plywood" on 2x8 joists. walls are 8' the peak of the roof is 13' the foot print is 12'x16' should have at least been doubled "I'm out of yard" :) the covering is 4'x8' double walled polly carbonate 4'x8' panels. the roof is corrugated clear uv fibreglass which will be changed to the polly carb panels in the future. This year I"m going to try heating it with a small electric oil heater over night to keep the main chill away. Thanks Bob :)

I got a sample of some rooting solution a long while back and I've added a few drops of it into my reservoir a few times, and it really makes my roots explode.

I started with my zucchini in the round tubes, and that was quite a mistake, I have those in DWC buckets now, the roots were insane, and are more insane now.

I think I will stick with herbs and lettuce my round tubes. I need to build more right now, but may hold off and see if I can find a deal on the square sleeves.

Great video. Your strawberries inspired me to try something like this next year. Thinking of doing a 4 or 5 tier A-Frame NFT and strawberries would be great in it. And now I'm thinking of trying the Coco Coir, I had never considered it before. Thanks for the inspiration! :)
