2^0 = 1 is NOT a monoid, because (a^e not equal to a), rather 2^1 = 2 IS a monoid cause a^e is equal to a, BUT one can argue 1^2 is not equal to 2 as it is one of the conditions you mentioned too, so a^e = a but e^a = e (not a)

Monoid : a semigroup (s, *) is monoid if it has an element e € S such that a*e = e*a = a
