Bill Gothard’s Institute In Basic Youth Conflicts was a very good teaching program. It wasn’t perfect, but it helped me to understand God’s plan for me as laid down in the Bible. The teaching on the umbrella of authority was always accompanied by the teaching of the grave responsibility of authority not to lead their dependents into sin or anger. Fathers were given Christ’s example of loving and serving His bride and DYING for her.

In any structured authority system, there's always going to be those in positions of power who abuse that power for personal gain. Humans aren't perfect.

Yes, it shouldn't be about authority, but rather the responsibility of the husband, how he should love and care for his wife and children. He should love them as Christ loved us and gave Himself for us. People twist this out of context unfortunately and want to make themselves ultimate authority. That can and does lead to abuse.

I am not sure one man can enlighten us on this topic. If you have not been to a Basic seminar or seen a Character sketch you should. Not saying there were not some implementation extremist during adoption adoption. As a man who has met Mr. Gothard.

The only problem I had w/ Gothard's program or training is that it tended toward a more law-based/works righteousness type of outlook, not emphasizing the grace of God enough. But there was nothing heretical about the teaching. A lot of folks who I saw glom onto his teaching tended toward that as well, not relying wholly upon the finished works of Christ. Anyone who made Gothard to be the end all, be all wasn't breathing enough oxygen. There was nothing attractive about him and he was merely providing a practical framework to live in a godly way in a time when many then-large denominations were going through the final stages of throwing off sound biblical teaching and holiness. I personally felt Gothard was redundant b/c I could read my Bible for myself and live accordingly w/o the Gothards of the world. A pastor of a church in which many of his flock followed the Gothard teachings might have had a pretty good experience as his flock may have been those who walked in a peaceful and orderly manner. 2:57

Terrible analysis; every ideology can attract bad players; Gothard had pretty sound doctrine but it takes discipleship in the fear of the Lord Jesus to help people understand God's ways and follow the Holy Spirit. I have not kept up with Bill Gothard; do not know his lifestyle; but this interview was judgmental and incomplete; Love your show

It definitely was a Woke documentary. It's sad what happened but greed and pride seemed to have taken over the Duggan Father and son, Joshua. Knowing Mr Gothard was a single man, as well as alone with girls etc, parents were too trusting of man instead of God. Very sad and sick what happened to the girls by Gothard too.
