THIS IS WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT. A24 truly is the studio of this generation, they enable such a variety of meaningful films that often get shutdown by larger studios who only care about turning profits, creating franchises… and restricting the creative limits of those on screen and behind. A24 I love you.

Honestly, this has been such a good year for A24. Can’t wait to see what this brings.

Every time Gabriel Union said something hateful to her son I felt it in my soul. Since she usually does light drama and comedy, it will be great to see her spread her wings.

Gabrielle Union is such an underrated actress. Hopefully A24 does the rounds come reward season because her performance looks excellent

As a veteran, I've worked with countless gay men in the service. There is not a single reason they shouldn't be there.
Some of them I'd argue were the best sailors out there. Turns out, being gay doesn't effect yours or anyone else's performance.

I wasn't expecting to cry watching this trailer, but here I am.
I'm thinking of seeing this with my dad in hopes that it can help us grow together and spark some big conversations. There are things about him that I don't understand, and there are things about me that he doesn't understand. I think this is the type of movie that can help bridge that gap.

Probably my favorite film I've ever worked on. Loved the people, the cast and crew. Just sad filming ended so soon. <3

If Bookem Woodbine doesn’t get any acknowledgment for all the films he has been in my lifetime this world is truly trash. I already know this is going to be good.

This looks amazing! A lot of people going to cry watching this and also get really angry. This is what a good piece of art suppose to make you feel.

I just pray that as a fellow marine, this actually dives into some of the real subtleties that goes on in bootcamp and even the fleet, the culture, the vocabulary, the dark and light of it all, the warriors mentality, everything, hopefully it doesn’t just take place in bootcamp since most of what being a marine comes out of the experiences had in the fleet and deployed, that’s where the real story is.

I served and this story is so relatable. I too was laughed at when I enlisted and my nick name during training was private weakbody. But I endured and graduated AIT top of my class, only one guy was above me.

The best Marine I served with in Fallujah was gay. Bravest man, best Marine I ever met. I think of him everyday. I can't wait to see this film. I hope it makes a fortune. I hope it earns an Academy Award. I hope those actors have long, fulfilling careers. Semper Fidelis.

Supposed to only ever be 'true unconditional love , a mother's love for her child.Heartbreaking but at the same time inspirational. Everything in this movie was amazing, my heart is still aching, ignorance is a terrible disease.

A24 is the only studio today with the courage to support films that tell real stories. No formulas, no over the top mind numbing CGI. Just an exploration and connection on what it is to be human. Thank you A24!

One of the first 10 comments. But not only that I see this as an Inspiring perspective. As Gay men of color especially one in the military seeing this representation is inspiring and uplifting.

Is it weird that as soon as I saw the bus, I somehow thought that this was going to be a military film. I just felt it. This looks really good. Well done A24.

Gabrielle Union’s performance in this movie is immaculate. Her voice inflection, her timing, eye movement, her body language, are flawless. The way she interacts with her son is riveting. You can feel the reality and intensity of homophobia at its core. Her stone cold disappointment in her son; there is no attempt to educate her; to explain that her son’s sexual orientation is immutable, that it wasn’t his choice. Truthfully, she doesn’t want to hear it. Even the “cigarette” utilized as part of her persona. Her look here is different than her other movies, she is much harder looking; intimidating. Her lines: she hands the birth certificate to her son, looks him in the eye, and exclaims, “Consider this piece of paper “void” if you don’t come back a changed man.” This is the homophobia many of us dealt with from less than empathetic parents. It’s all too real. Scary real. I could feel the hairs on the back of my neck bristle. She makes a scene; attempts to humiliate, embarrass her son at his graduation, calling out the drill sergeant for having the audacity to actually graduate him. Imagine how disgraced she is! The implied hatred she had for her son, because of who he is. Not caring that her exposing him, could have sent him back on the street as she was intending. I want people to know, there really are tens of thousands of Inez French’s out there, some even worse..! —Inez French was my mother too..!! 😭
