Michio Kaku: 3 mind-blowing predictions about the future

What lies in store for humanity? Theoretical physicist Michio Kaku explains how different life will be for your descendants—and maybe your future self, if the timing works out.

Carl Sagan believed humanity needed to become a multi-planet species as an insurance policy against the next huge catastrophe on Earth. Now, Elon Musk is working to see that mission through, starting with a colony of a million humans on Mars. Where will our species go next?

Theoretical physicist Michio Kaku looks decades into the future and makes three bold predictions about human space travel, the potential of 'brain net', and our coming victory over cancer.

"[I]n the future, the word 'tumor' will disappear from the English language," says Kaku. "We will have years of warning that there is a colony of cancer cells growing in our body. And our descendants will wonder: How could we fear cancer so much?"

This world that he is describing sounds horrible. Completely taking away from the human experience. It’s not his fault, it’s probably going to happen. I just hope my kids get to live at least a part of the human experience that I enjoyed. Pretty sad if technology takes us in that direction but I will continue to enjoy my camping and fishing with my kids until that is no longer the norm. Our kids or their kids are gonna be living in a messed up reality.

Honestly, I’d rather be dead. And it’s comforting to know that I almost certainly will be.

I've listened to Michio Kaku for many years, mostly to compare my knowledge to his, my predictions to his, I have also been aware of his humor. However, I've never seen it this displayed before. He doesn't make himself as available as he used to for interviews probably because he's getting a bit old and tired of that routine. But it seems to me he'd be a good stand up comedian.

It's very good to hear that the rich will always walk and live forever with out cancer.

Star Trek TV series in the 1960s ( and set in the “2100s”) said cancer gone, but still the common cold hanging around.

This is not good. No sense of privacy. Those bad memories you want to forget will be save online and people can see it. Students will have lack of motivation to study because it’s easy to get the answers online

Didn't they fix the stuck drill of the Mars Rover by making it smack itself in it's "head" with it's shovel?

I read your book, Kaku. Filled with fantasy, conjecture and scientific flights of fantasy. I love science. Especially when it's based on real evidence. Not fantasy and conjecture.

I had no idea this is how Stephen Hawkings communicated I love science

1) The off-world ideas are mostly profit driven and will have to be replaced with lucrative schemes, ie: you're paid and provided for to create a better than earth off-world situation.
2) Communications will change with and after we iron out the mistakes in present examples and forms. While useful in some situations the machine part will be outdone by (r)evolution of love on a global level.
3) Progress on combating diseases will continue, so will our knowledge and utilisation of DNA.
I'm missing a driving force for most progress here and that will be new ways of energy management, starting with batteries all up to fusion.
And of course many things we haven't even begun to fathom yet.

Well you could also say that we're already a multi planet species, physically on Earth and spiritually in the spirit, I don't see how any of us here would it ever be part of a group that makes it to another planet, and then grows that planet, and whatever fashion is necessary that we would experience it and see that it ever came to pass, while we're alive.

Professor, what do we have to do to become a type 1 civilization?

Maybe we our species is already spread throughout the universe ! Maybe we were brought here to Earth from other life forms throughout the universe's but we are all different looking according to the environments and chemical make ups of other planets and somehow we are all all connected to the universe. There is so much life out there. Just something to think about thanks for listening.

The only problem is majority of us can't afford to go to mars or could make the trip.I mean that's why people have to go through tests before they can, travel. So, unless they come up with a, safer way to get us there easier, gonna be risky

Damn I believe that video that’s supposedly us in the future. What our bodies have adapted into to sustain life. You don’t comprehend time..
