I have to disagree with changing at 0.25, a lot of new chains read at that measurement if you use that particular park tool checker your using, if you use a solid checker I find the results a lot more favourable, 0.5 is my replacement gauge

Changing it ar 0.25 when the tool literally says the 0.25 means it s an unused chain?

Changing at .25 would be a new chain after every ride. These videos are getting worse. The park checker you showed explicitly shows a new chain should be between .25 and .5. And to replace at .75 although I’d change a 12sp just before that.

It says on the Park Tool chain checker that 0.25 is a new chain. Chains don't have perfect tolerances, so there will be a little bit of play, even when brand new.

What about a 6 speed brompton bicycle?

How do you size a chain properly? Thinking about a build from bare frame. TIA

Are there any negative effects if your chain is too long? I’m just changing mine and it appears to be much longer than the calculated length for my bike -I’ve used two on line calculators for the new one and both have the same result so I assume they’re correct. I had always suspected my chain was too slack but it did work and rode ok, so I’m questioning what the effects of a ‘too-long’ chain are, if any?!?!

I replace mine annually, period.
And reuse the chain in creative ways elsewhere

Fewer gears. Yes, I know, I’m that guy. Celebrate with me.
