You'd have to try and find a like for like replacement. Time consuming. Yes, plastic becomes brittle with age. You're on a vented, system boiler. Notorious for air locks if you do a full drain down. If you do proceed, don't forget to tie up the ball/float valve in you feed/expansion tank in loft, or you'll be at it forever. Bang in some corrosion inhibitor while you are at it when you refill.
