As a (mostly former) shy person I'd just like to say that you all are absolute saints for trying to help shy people. You feel so overwhelmed and afraid when you have to interact with strangers and acquaintances and it's truly so heartwarming and encouraging to see how many people are willing to help or meet us where we're at. There's one girl at my dance studio who never talks unless she really needs to, and even if she does she's always very quiet. Her facial expressions hardly ever change, she always just has a poker face. I've seen her smile literally once, and I see her almost every day (plus the dance studio is a mega fun place). Her arms are always crossed, and she stays away from everyone else. No one tries to go near her because they feel awkward with how shy and closed off she is, except for me. In fact, recently I've been trying to get her to open up. I got her number a few days ago thinking it would be easier for her to text, and so far it's working! She seems like a really nice person! I'm glad I saw this video and will implement these tips :)

I myself am a shy person and yesterday I met a girl. She was really nice to me and did all of the things you just said. What you said is true I felt much more open and comfortable. Before I met her I always thought I was annoying to other people so I thank her a lot and hope we will meet again someday (she moved to a different country)

As someone who's very shy myself, that question thing is definitely what makes all conversations I'm in work - even though I want to be more social with my friends, they basically end up starting all the conversations and I just respond and occasionally say something that relates to the conversation. Nice tips.

Sometimes they are not shy, they just don't want to talk. I have been trying to make friends with a colleague of mine. I try to talk to him, take an interest in his culture even offered him food, but he either turns his back or walks away from me. It seems like he doesn't like me.

Nice video, and good advice!
However, I use a more uhh...creative way of befriending shy, or any kind of people. I play a game that I like to call "Play the Dumb", where I try to be that *ultra-positive* kid that isn't really bright, so he/she won't be that shy nervous to respond to my questions(usually it's a monologue). However, I would suggest not to use this method when you're around too many school/work colleagues, cause it will get very fricking awkward.
