In The Nun 2, the villainous Valak is back as a new wave of murders begins in France in 1956. It's up to Sister Irene to face her fears and take down the demon for good. We're breaking down the story, explaining the ending and credits scene, as well as how it fits into the Conjuring series overall.

At least Valak actually did things in this one other than stand at the end of hallways

I love how the thumbnail is "felt cute, might delete later" selfie vibes from the demon nun

I thought it seemed obvious while watching the first nun that Irene was definitely Lorraine's ancestor. I thought to myself, damn, they look a lot alike, and sure enough, I found out two actresses are sisters. So they've obviously been setting up this plot detail for a while. It certainly explains Lorraines psychic abilities and her personal connection to Valek in conjuring 2. I'm sure they'll reveal it in the conjuring 4.

For me, Taissa Farmiga is what makes these movies. She's such a great actress like her sister. Great horror duo, would love a movie where they play sisters in a slasher movie or something.

The Conjuring universe to me is an example of why some things don’t need Spin-offs.

I remember seeing a fan made poster years ago for this, they really missed out on not having the tag line "valak is having nun of it."

There was a scene where Maurice told Irene the would be bound together because she save his life and he saved hers (from the first movie). I took that to mean they (Irene and her descendants and Valak) would be doing this demon possesses someone must perform exorcism dance forever. Could just be me.

The less you see of the scary character is better sometimes, it adds mystery and I thought when nun showed up in the painting in the other movies it was way creepier

I actually liked that they used the same characters for the nun. It added so much depth to the story.

It kind of annoyed me how the cardinal basically demanded Sister Irene face off against Valak again. They promoted Father Burke to Bishop but acted like she didn't exist (rumour even spreading that the nun went insane from the traumatic events), then when Valak starts yeeting their asses across Europe there's the church, once again demanding she helps them.

I was genuinely interested in watching a movie about Valak’s origins, rather than seeing Valak hunt a different group of people. I also had the impression that Taissa Farmiga would portray the nun. In my opinion, the Conjuring universe should consider bringing David F. Sandberg back. Among all the spin-offs, Annabelle: Creation stands out as the best to me. I don't know man…the audience has already spoken. Perhaps it’s time to move on from Valak and introduce The Crooked Man.

So I decently enjoyed this movie. The ending did bother me though. We know that Frenchie is still possessed in 1971 was when the Warrens were at his exorcism and Loraine had the Valek vision. So at the end it did kinda feel like, what was the point

They do show Lorraine's eyes over Irene's before they open and glow! There's certainly a connection of them being Saint Lucy's family members. ❤

Edit: At the end of the movie, during the credits, it shows Saint Lucy's family tree and Lorriane's name is shown!

The conjuring 2 was one of the best theater experiences I’ve ever had. Me and a few college friends went after class and even got a ride from a professor

I think if the first Nun movie had been done properly, it would have been a good addition to the franchise. The idea of a demon haunting a convent with a dark history, and the nuns are already dead but appear sporadically as ghosts? It's a great idea. But the cheap jump scares, the priest (Father Anthony was his name, I think?) and all of his antics, plus the lack of any real threat to the protagonists (every time Irene was "attacked" she managed to easily wriggle away with nary a scratch) made it seem like a half-assed attempt. Which then furthers the disappointment when The Nun II follows the same formula.

What makes the presence of a demon and then later its possession of the mom in The Conjuring so unnerving is a truly evil and threatening demon in Bathsheba--we know how she came to be an evil spirit, exactly how evil she really is, and that she is an actual threat following the three steps of infestation, oppression, and possession. It's a slow burn. The "scares" serve a purpose other than "Ooh, spooky noise and AH! Bad guy! Oh wait, he's gone now."

Ugh, what a letdown.

I honestly quite enjoyed it, the scares were inconsistent but you get that with most conjouring verse films and there were definitely some that I kinda liked. I thought the performances were mostly pretty great, and the story and lore was actually pretty decent, I liked how the conversation about faith and the communion wine came back at the end. My only complaint really is that Valak still hasn't been nearly as scary as it was in The Conjuring 2 in either of its own movies. One of the reasons the 2nd Conjuring film is my favourite in the franchise is the layers of manipulation that Valak puts the family and the Warren's through before only fully manifesting at the end. Possessing Old Bill, showing Lorraine Ed's death, making it look like Janet was faking her possession for attention, truly a terrifying villain. The stakes in that movie are great

I don't know it's just me who noticed but the scene where sophie opens the door that she heard creak when she was following her mother up the steps and sees Valek standing there I believe that was the same hallway in the Warren's house in The Conjuring 2 where Judy and Lorraine saw Valek as well. The wallpaper, same scene. There's definitely a connection between Irene and Lorraine.

This is insane to keep making these movies, especially considering we already know that Valek will be defeated, so it’s hard to see him as a real threat since all Vera Farmiga has to do is yell at him: “I know your name Valek, go away” and he just….does

The Nun 2 Electric Boogaloo…could’ve been a catchy title lol. Thanks for your awesome videos! You always manage to perfectly breakdown movies & I really enjoy your takes. Usually they’re movies I’ve watched but I enjoy even more the movies I know I’m not gonna see, like this one lol. So thanks for doing the work for the rest of us ✊
