A Canadian research team has found a repeating fast radio signal, only the second of its kind to be discovered, coming from the depths of space. In a paper published this week in Nature, researchers reveal that a recently unveiled radio telescope in British Columbia — the Canadian Hydrogen Intensity Mapping Experiment — discovered the signal.

what is interesting to me is that these can be a new "standard candle of distance". Thus: how much similar are these bursts when first emitted. If these are magnetars, having a quantum response to spin decay, in what way are they produced by these magnetars? How similar are they? Is there a critical spin containment? Does this reach a threshold, then emit? Is there a quantum collapse from some principal that reaches a critical state? A repeating signal means long lived phenomena. Spin reduction on emit? What would be the spun up method for a magnetar because the magnetic field would obviate material fall on the surface, but would interact even at long distances with a toriod of gas. Thus it seems that the material in the toriod would be the emitting surface because of the distance traversed. Is it when the gas reaches relativistic speed it reaches the threshold? It seems thus there is a binary companion in an aged state, and can only happen with a magnetar because of no X-ray emission from surface impact or be so far away it can't be seen.

Even if it’s determined to be an intelligent radio signal wherever it originated from would not be in the same place in space. With the Milky Way moving through the universe and out solar system moving through our galaxy it will be hard to conclusively determine where the radio bursts came from. Billions or years in the past.
