TCP Connection Management Part 1 | IIT Lecture Series

Показать описание
TCP is a unicast connection-oriented protocol. Before either end can send data to the other, a connection must be established between them. TCP detects and repairs essentially all the data transfer problems that may be introduced by packet loss, duplication, or errors at the IP layer (or below).

Because of its management of connection state (information about the connection kept by both endpoints), TCP is a considerably more complicated protocol than UDP.

During connection establishment, several options can be exchanged between the two endpoints regarding the parameters of the connection. Some options are allowed to be sent only when the connection is established, and others can be sent later. The TCP header has a limited space for holding options (40 bytes).

Thanks for this informative video. i wanted to correct one point that you mentioned in the video exactly at 0:30 seconds, this is about MSS negotiation, i don't think TCP negotiate MSS. sender and receiver just exchange MSS values that they support (entire path support in some cases). they just negotiate/agreed on whether to support feature like windows scale and SACK...

Not sure you are talking about the TCP 3 way handshake or the TCP Fast open. Explanation at time 4.23 looks wrong as for the TCP 3 way handshake we dont provide any data until connection is established both ways. and if it is TCP fastopen, i dont see any TFO cookie.

The example of transferring 20L twice due to a dup packet is so cringey. This is definitely by someone who has never hands on worked in anything networking but solely based on bookish knowledge.
