Oyster Mushrooms (Pleurotus ostreatus) grow in ever ecosystem from temperate to tropical.
Their enzyme suite is extremely good at breaking down compounds from coffee to corn to trees to cardboard. Making them an easy one to grow at home or harvest in the wild.

Here on the WestCoast, they like Alder Trees, but they have been known to grow on Maple, Beech, Oak and many other trees.
They form in abundant clusters in the Springtime and are best harvested when young

Do not in areas where there is heavy pollution because Oysters work in the environment to bio-remediate toxins.

They contain many useful compounds including thiamine, riboflavin, folic acid, sterols, vitamin D2, and D4  gamma ergosterols, carotenoids, and bioflavonoids. They also are high in protein and contain many minerals like copper and zinc.

They contain ubiquitin which is a type of protein that binds to other waste proteins and helps recycle or remove them from the body.

The type of ubiquitin in them has shown to help stop the decision of viral infected cells, specifically HIV. But there is also some promise for other viral loads as well.

Health benefits:
Help with hypoglycemia and blood sugar regulation.
Cholesterol - Contain lovastatin the original Staten drug
Supportive for High Blood pressure, but will not lower blood pressure if it is already too low.

Offering lots of support for liver health and blood vessels

Immunomodulating polysaccharides, including beta-glucan
Inhibiting tumor growth and prevention.

Consumption of Oyster Mushrooms lowers blood concentrations of triglycerides, cholesterol and oxidized LDL due to a naturally occurring statin drug Lovastatin.

Consumption
Don't eat raw, make sure to lightly cook with oil, or my favourite is to marinate and bake.

Hope you get out and find some of these for yourself this year.

I have arrhythmias bec of coronary artery disease. I list and monitor what I drink and eat.
My heart contraction and aorta is strong and my aorta is pulsating for the past 3 months.

Last night, FIRST TIME I ate asparagus and
oyster mushroom with lots of garlic & onion cooked in salted butter. Then I took magnesium glycinate and sole water.

After 2 hours of eating I notice my heart not contracting hard. It is normal. I lay flat on the bed and notice my aorta not pulsating that much and the tension (hardening) in the center of my stomach softened.

Again, this is the first time I ate oyster mushrooms and asparagus and firt time my heart became normal.
I thank God for His wonderful creation.

I have a five gallon bucket of these growing in boiled/cooled straw out on my deck in shade. Husband drilled small holes all over the bucket sides and bottom. I bought one of those kits from Walmart that has the mycelium in coffee grounds, allowed it to expand to the point that the box was popping open, then I opened the pack and dispersed all of the mycelium throughout layers of straw in the bucket with a lid. We’ve been keeping it misted daily and now we have oyster mushrooms popping out so many of the holes. Oodles of them. We’ll continue this on as long as we can and keep growing more and more buckets of mushrooms from that one twenty dollar purchase of a mushroom growing kit from Walmart. It’s honestly been so easy to do. And yielded so many more mushrooms than that little kit ever could have because it’s a massively bigger surface area for the mycelium to grow through and emerge from as mushrooms. Thanks for explaining all of the health benefits of the mushrooms. I had no idea. This video just came up on my YouTube feed and I’m so glad :)

I actually have been using oyster mushrooms lately so much! One of my favorite very simple recipes is just grilling them on a cast-iron pan with some olive oil salt pepper and Sriracha sauce😊

I harvested my first batch of them from a fallen oak in the woods behind my house back in November... I dried them out to add to soups later but the kids loved them dehydrated so they didn't make it to a soup, haha, they can't wait until they come back so we can make an oyster mushroom etoufee 😊 thanks for the share, I had no idea they were medicinal! Here's to learning something new everyday 👍👍

Oyster mushrooms can even be found in the winter if Temps are fairly mild. They are simply frozen sitting there under the snow on their substrate of choice. They grow spring through fall and there are different pleurotus species from pulmonarius in the spring to ostreatus in the fall. All are delicious. I have some fresh ones now. I am making soup and chowder and deep frying the rest. I have some dried to try making tincture too. Food is medicine my friends. Be well ✌

Thank you Jedi. As a hobby mycologist I love growing oysters for my diet. One of my favorites. Also Chaga, the mush of immortality.

I envy your lush forests that we don't have in Southern California. It is difficult to find abundant living things when living through a drought as we have now.

I miss watching this channel about 4 years ago he always had a video out like this where you learn about a new plant or mushroom but not as much as the plants. Last couple years the channel has been different with short nature walks or Talking about getting in touch with your wild side and nature or something similar which I do still watch but these kinds of videos have always been my favorite because I learn something new each time I rewatch.

I really enjoyed learning more about the health benefits of oyster mushrooms as I just made a new friend who is cultivating pearl oyster mushrooms in my city of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. I will definitely get more from him again. I got to try his red cap mushrooms. Looking forward to trying his king white and black oyster mushrooms in a couple of weeks.

Our favorite way to cook them is pan sauteed in either ghee or regular salted (organic) butter, with garlic strait from the garden. Oysters are easy to grow at home, too. Delicious.
